In March 8, 1857 40.000 textile workers started a strike in their textile factory for getting better working conditions in New York State. But the police attacked the workers and they locked them into the factory. After the fire which came out in the factory, the workers could not run away from the fire because of the barricades constructed in front of the factory by the police. 120 women died in this fire and over 10.000 people attended their funeral.
