What is New Year’s Eve?
New Year’s Eve is a special day which is celebrated on 31st of December every year. The pur-pose of New Year’s Eve is to celebrate the end of a year and the start of a new year. 31st of De-cember is the last day of every year on Gregorian calendar. A lot of countries accept the Gregori-an calendar as their main calendar. Thats why in almost every country New Year’s Eve is have been celebrated annually. New Year’s Eve is also being called as Old Year’s Day or Saint Syl-vester’s Day by people from some countries. Generally, celebrations of New Year’s Eve continue until New Year’s Day’s (1st January) dawn.
Almost in every countries New Year’s Eve celebrations start with fireworks which has been set off. People from every country celebrate the end of a year and the beginning of another year with various ceremonies such as parties, jovialities, family meals, friend gatherings and different cele-brations. In some countries New Year’s Eve celebrations have more religious themes, people usually go to church or different houses of worship.
New Year’s Day has different names depends on the countries. For example, in Brazil it is called Ano Novo, in French it is called Veille du Jour de l’An, in Mexico it is called Vispera de Año Nuevo. In United States of America New Year’s Eve celebrations consist of concerts, square parties, large public events and formal parties.
New Year’s Eve is not a nationwide public holiday but some businesses are closed depends on the business bosses. In some countries like Bangladesh, Japan or etc, New Year’s Eve is a holi-day for banks and some different government offices.
