What is Valentine’s Day?

Valentine’s Day (alias St. Valentine’s Day) is a special day celebrated annually on 14th of February. Valentine’s Day’s origin is based on the belief of the Rome Catholic Church. It showed up as a special day which was announced in behalf of a religious functionary called Saint Valentine. Also the word of Valentine is also mean love or beloved in some Western societies. 

The connection between February and the Valentine’s Day go long way back actually. Even in Ancient Greek calendars, the days between January and the middle of February, was dedicated to holy marriage of Zeus and Hera. There were some festivals for abundance in Ancient Greek in February. 

14th of February is also the day before Lupercalia. After Lupercalia was banned by Pope Gelasius in 469, Valentine’s Day was announced for the first time. In 1969, it removed from the church calendar. 

By 1800s, Valentine’s Day became a popular and social event after Esther Howland from America sent the first Valentine’s Day card. As an expected result, in the course of events Valentine’s Day came into prominence with its commercial results. In every 14th of February, a lot of presents sold like cards, teddy bears, roses, boxes of chocolate etc. Consequently, Valentine’s Day also helps the trade of souvenirs and some special stuff. Also, in every year, a lot of people make a proposal in 14th of February. Valentine’s Day is criticized on account of the fact that its helping commercial interests by a lot of people. 

In Saudi Arabia, to sell all the stuff which can be used in Valentine’s Day has banned officially.

Valentine’s Day is celebrated on 14th of February in all over the world annually. Valentine’s Day in 2018 has already passed. The next Valentine’s Day is on Thursday, February 14, 2019
