Early May Bank Holiday 2027 — what day?

Early May Bank Holiday 2027
The Early May bank holiday is normally the first Monday of May. In 2027 that Monday is Monday, May 3, 2027. It is a UK-wide bank holiday, creating a popular long weekend for travel and events.
Parliament occasionally relocates the holiday for major commemorations (for example, VE Day anniversaries). When that happens, official gov.uk notices override the default first-Monday rule. Fresh Calendars publishes the standard rule unless a special statutory change is modeled.
Pair this Monday with the Spring bank holiday (last Monday of May) when building a full late-spring UK calendar — two bank-holiday Mondays in the same month are common.

How the date is calculated
Default rule: first Monday of May (nth-weekday). For 2027 Fresh Calendars resolves that to Monday, May 3, 2027. Check gov.uk if a one-off commemorative shift is announced for the year.

May Day weekend in modern form
The holiday sits near traditional May Day / International Workers’ Day themes but is scheduled as a Monday bank holiday for a reliable three-day weekend rather than always on 1 May.
For schools and offices, it often lands in the middle of exam or project seasons — marking it early on a May printable prevents surprise closures.
