All Saints Day 2026 falls on Sunday, Nov. 1, and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) lists Nov. 1, the solemnity of All Saints, among the holy days of obligation in the United States. The date is seven days after Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026. Because it is a Sunday, the Saturday or Monday exemption does not apply, and Mass is required anyway.

Is All Saints Day a holy day of obligation in 2026?

Yes. The USCCB’s canon 1246 complementary norm lists “November 1, the solemnity of All Saints” on the U.S. list. The same norm says that whenever Jan. 1, Aug. 15 or Nov. 1 “falls on a Saturday or on a Monday, the precept to attend Mass is abrogated.” Nov. 1, 2026, is a Sunday, so that rule does not come into play. Check your parish for its Mass times.

What is the date of All Souls Day 2026?

All Souls Day is Monday, Nov. 2, 2026, the day after All Saints. It is not on the list of U.S. holy days of obligation in the USCCB norm. Our story on Day of the Dead 2026 dates covers a related early-November observance.

Is All Saints Day a holy day of obligation in 2027?

No. The USCCB’s 2027 liturgical calendar says: “Monday, November 1, is the Solemnity of All Saints. … because it is a Monday, this year the obligation to attend Mass on this date is abrogated.” Nov. 1 moves from a Sunday in 2026 to a Monday in 2027.

Which U.S. holy days of obligation fall from November 2026 to December 2027?

The table lists each date on the U.S. list, with weekdays computed for the year shown, and All Souls Day for reference.

The USCCB 2027 calendar says the Ascension is Thursday, May 6, in the ecclesiastical provinces of Boston, Hartford, New York, Omaha and Philadelphia, and that all other provinces transferred it to Sunday, May 9. Easter 2027 is March 28. The USCCB norm says a province may move the Ascension to the Seventh Sunday of Easter with “the affirmative vote of two-thirds of the bishops.” In 2026 the pattern was the same: Ascension was May 14 in the five provinces and May 17 elsewhere.

Does the Saturday and Monday rule apply to every holy day?

No. The norm names only three dates: Jan. 1, Aug. 15 and Nov. 1. In 2026, Aug. 15 was a Saturday, and the obligation was abrogated that day. The rule does not name Dec. 8 or Dec. 25, so it does not cover Christmas when it lands on a Saturday, as it does in 2027. The USCCB says the decree was adopted Dec. 13, 1991, and took effect Jan. 1, 1993.

Is Hawaii different?

Yes. Both the 2026 and 2027 USCCB calendars say that in a decree dated March 23, 1992, the Bishop of Honolulu designated Christmas and the Immaculate Conception as the only two holy days of obligation for the State of Hawaii.
