Cooked turkey from Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2026 is good in the refrigerator through Sunday, Nov. 29 or Monday, Nov. 30, if it was chilled within 2 hours. That follows the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which says in Preparing Your Holiday Turkey Safely to eat cooked turkey and dishes made with it within 3 to 4 days. This story turns that window into calendar dates, adds a shorter limit for gravy and ends with a printable tracker.

The Minnesota Department of Health Refrigerator and Freezer Storage Chart also lists cooked poultry pieces and poultry hotdishes at 3 to 4 days, matching the CDC. The dates are our count from those day limits, not a date printed by either agency. The CDC says to freeze leftovers to store them for longer, so whatever you will not eat by the last day belongs in the freezer.
How soon must leftovers go in the refrigerator?
The CDC says to refrigerate leftovers at 40°F (about 4°C) or colder within 2 hours of cooking to prevent food poisoning. Food that has been exposed to temperatures higher than 90°F (about 32°C), such as in a hot car, must go in within 1 hour.
For a big cut of meat, the CDC says to cut a turkey or roast into smaller pieces so it cools quickly. A TV station in Hattiesburg, Mississippi (WDAM), and Food Safety News, both citing the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), give the same idea for the rest of the table: use covered, shallow containers, and divide leftovers into small, shallow containers before refrigerating or freezing them.
How long can you freeze Thanksgiving leftovers?
The CDC only says to freeze leftovers for longer storage. For a time limit, WDAM reported on Nov. 27, 2025, that leftovers in the freezer have the best quality within 2 to 6 months, according to the USDA. Food Safety News said in November 2024 that frozen leftovers are best consumed within two to six months. Both describe quality, and both are from earlier years.
What temperature should leftovers be reheated to?
Reheat all leftovers to at least 165°F (about 74°C) before serving or eating, per the CDC. The FoodSafety.gov Safe Minimum Internal Temperatures chart lists leftovers and casseroles at 165°F too. WDAM, citing the USDA, said to bring sauces, soups and gravies to a boil when reheating, and Food Safety News said to bring them to a rolling boil.
Print the Thanksgiving leftovers tracker
The printable tracker lists each dish with its eat-or-freeze date for 2026, and the 165°F reheating rule. Mark the time each dish went into the refrigerator on Thanksgiving night, then cross it off as it is eaten or frozen. Print a November 2026 calendar to keep beside it.
