Halloween Party Ideas 2026: Witches' Brew Punch and a Safe Bubbling Cauldron
Make a nonalcoholic witches' brew punch for Halloween 2026 with a printable checklist and a bubbling cauldron look that keeps dry ice out of the drink.
In this article
A nonalcoholic witches’ brew punch that makes about 13 cups, or 10 to 12 servings, takes 10 minutes to mix, and Halloween 2026 falls on Saturday, Oct. 31. The color comes from cranberry juice, berries and citrus, and the fizz from soda or sparkling water. Pour it into a black cauldron-style bowl, add gummy worms or frozen berry “eyeballs,” and light the outside of the bowl for the bubbling look.
The idea fits what people are searching for. Google’s Halloween trends post, published Oct. 14, 2026, names “witches brew punch” as the top trending Halloween drink. It says search interest in “cauldron crock pot” is at an all-time high, that “how to make a bubbling cauldron” is a breakout search this month, and that “where can I buy dry ice” spikes every year. Those are search trends, not a survey of what party hosts plan to serve. The recipe here is our own. Google has not tested or endorsed it.

Witches’ brew punch recipe
Makes about 13 cups, enough for 10 to 12 servings. Prep takes 10 minutes. Chill it for 1 to 2 hours for the best flavor.
Ingredients
- 4 cups (960 milliliters) cranberry or cranberry-raspberry juice, chilled
- 4 cups (960 milliliters) apple juice, chilled
- 2 cups (480 milliliters) pineapple juice, chilled
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon or lime juice
- 3 cups (720 milliliters) chilled lemon-lime soda or sparkling water, added just before serving
- 1 orange, thinly sliced
- 1 cup frozen raspberries or blackberries
- Ice
- Optional garnish: gummy worms or frozen berry “eyeballs”
Check labels for allergens and dietary needs. For a less sweet punch, swap some or all of the soda for sparkling water. Keep non-food decorations out of the drink.
Steps
- Chill the juices and soda in the refrigerator.
- In a clean punch bowl or large food-safe container, combine the cranberry, apple, pineapple and lemon or lime juices.
- Add the orange slices and frozen berries, then refrigerate until the party.
- Just before serving, slowly stir in the soda or sparkling water to keep the fizz.
- Add ice to each cup rather than the bowl, so the punch does not turn watery, then ladle and garnish.
You can mix the juices up to one day ahead. Keep them covered in the refrigerator and add the soda at the last minute. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advises serving pasteurized juice or cider, because unpasteurized products can carry bacteria such as Salmonella. It also says perishable food should not sit out of the refrigerator for more than two hours, or one hour when the air is above 90°F.
A bubbling cauldron without dry ice
The simplest safe option leaves the bubbles out of the drink entirely.
- Put the punch in a clean, food-safe black bowl.
- Set that bowl inside a larger decorative container, with a gap between them.
- Use green or purple battery-powered lights, paper flames or fabric “smoke” around the outside.
- If you add a small fog machine, keep its fluid and output away from the food and follow the maker’s instructions.
Battery-powered lights are also the safer choice near costumes and paper decorations. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has advised, in general Halloween guidance from 2022, using battery-operated lights or glow sticks rather than open-flame candles.
Dry ice and punch: what the safety sources say
Dry ice makes dramatic fog, and that is why people search for it each October. It is also a real hazard. Never put dry ice in drinking cups, and never serve punch while pieces may remain in the liquid.
- The FDA’s Food Code interpretation on liquid nitrogen and dry ice says dry ice should not be eaten or drunk or touch exposed skin, and that it should be fully sublimated (turned to gas) before a drink is served.
- The Illinois Poison Center says contact can cause frostbite-type injuries and burns. It also warns against using or carrying dry ice in a poorly ventilated space, because it releases carbon dioxide, and against placing it directly in drinking cups.
- America’s Poison Centers says touching or swallowing dry ice can cause serious burns like frostbite, and advises using it only in well-ventilated areas.
For a family party we recommend the no-dry-ice setup above. If you have a question about an exposure, the poison help line is 1-800-222-1222.
Three easy variations
Green Monster Punch. Replace 2 cups of cranberry juice with green fruit punch or another green drink. Add lime slices and green grapes.
Vampire Berry Punch. Use cranberry-raspberry juice as the main juice, add frozen raspberries and serve in clear cups with a red berry garnish.
Midnight Grape Punch. Combine chilled purple grape juice, apple juice and sparkling water. Orange slices or dark berries deepen the color without food coloring.
Check labels and use only food-safe garnishes in each version.

Frequently asked questions
What is witches' brew punch?
It is a Halloween party drink, usually fruit juice with soda or sparkling water and themed garnishes. This version has no alcohol and can be mixed ahead.
What is the easiest bubbling cauldron effect?
Use a black serving bowl with purple or green battery-powered lights and decorations around the outside. Keep any fog or mist device away from the food and follow its instructions.
Is dry ice safe in Halloween punch?
Dry ice can cause burns on skin and serious injury if swallowed. Never put it in individual cups or serve a drink while dry ice may remain. For a family party, create the bubbling look without it.
Can I make witches' brew punch the night before?
Yes. Mix the juices and citrus, cover and refrigerate. Add the soda or sparkling water right before serving so the punch stays fizzy.
How many people does this recipe serve?
It makes about 13 cups, enough for 10 to 12 servings. For a larger party, double the ingredients and use a food-safe container with enough room.
