Remembrance Day falls on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026, and whether it is a day off depends on the province, according to Canada.ca, which lists the date and notes that provinces and territories have their own holidays. In the United Kingdom (UK), Remembrance Sunday is Sunday, Nov. 8, 2026. From Saturday, Oct. 24, that is 18 days to Nov. 11 and 15 days to Nov. 8.

The table below sets out what each government source says. For the printed version, use the one-page list attached to this story.

Is Remembrance Day a statutory holiday in 2026?

The Canada Revenue Agency’s public holidays page on Canada.ca lists “Remembrance Day – Wednesday, November 11, 2026”. The same page notes that provinces and territories have their own holidays, so the federal listing does not settle your own workplace. Only four provinces are confirmed here.

ProvinceWhat the official source says (2026)
British ColumbiaRemembrance Day, Wednesday, November 11, is on the province’s 2026 statutory holidays list.
OntarioNot among the Employment Standards Act public holidays; employers are not required to give the day off.
ManitobaCannot be substituted for another day; most industries are not allowed to operate on Nov. 11; employers are not required to give an additional day off but may.
New BrunswickOne of eight paid public holidays.

For any other province or territory, check your province’s employment standards office. This story does not state their status.

What does Manitoba’s rule mean in practice?

Manitoba’s fact sheet draws a line between Remembrance Day and general holidays: “Unlike general holidays, Remembrance Day cannot be substituted for another day.” It adds that “Most industries in Manitoba are not allowed to operate on November 11.” Employers “are not required to provide an additional day off for employees for Remembrance Day, but may do so.”

Ontario takes a different route. Its Remembrance Day page asks people to “pause and observe two minutes of silence” at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11, while the Employment Standards Act does not list the day as a public holiday.

When is the two-minute silence?

Veterans Affairs Canada says the nation pauses at 11:00 a.m. for two solemn minutes of silence to honour those who gave their all. Ontario’s page gives the same time, 11 a.m. on Nov. 11.

When is Remembrance Sunday in the UK?

GOV.UK’s guidance for the National Service of Remembrance sets it for Sunday, Nov. 8, 2026. The service is held at the Cenotaph on Whitehall in London and starts at 11 a.m., which is Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) after UK clocks go back on Oct. 25. At 11 a.m. the national two-minute silence is marked by the firing of guns from King’s Troop on Horse Guards Parade.

GOV.UK says no tickets or passes are needed for the event, and that space is limited.
