Berlin Wall Fall Anniversary 2026: 37 Years on Monday, Nov. 9, and Freedom Week

Monday, Nov. 9, 2026 marks the 37th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, according to the Berlin city government’s Nov. 9 events page on Berlin.de. Berlin Freedom Week runs from Nov. 7 to 14, and several districts hold Nov. 9 commemorations with listed start times. The main Berlin Wall Memorial programme for the day is not confirmed.

Berlin Wall anniversary dates to mark in 2026

Nov. 8, 2026 is a Sunday, so the anniversary falls on the next day, Monday. Berlin.de dates Freedom Week as Nov. 7 to 14, 2026, and its programme site, berlin-freedom-week.com, gives the same span. The count in the last column runs from Nov. 8.

Date	Day	What happens	Days from Nov. 8
Nov. 7	Saturday	Berlin Freedom Week begins	Passed
Nov. 9	Monday	37th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall	1
Nov. 9	Monday	Freedom and Security Women Summit, German Bundestag (no time given)	1
Nov. 14	Saturday	Berlin Freedom Week ends	6

The calendar page for November 2026 shows the week in full, and the weekly calendar fits the Nov. 9 to 15 run.

Which Berlin events on Nov. 9 have a time?

Berlin.de lists five district commemorations with times for Nov. 9, 2026. They sit under its “Events on November 9” page, and the Pankow entry refers to the pogroms that escalated on the night of Nov. 9 to 10, 1938. Times below are as the city prints them.

District	Time	Where
Pankow	10 a.m.	Jewish Cemetery in Weißensee
Pankow	11:30 a.m.	Jewish Cemetery in Prenzlauer Berg
Steglitz-Zehlendorf	4 p.m.	Mirrored wall on Hermann-Ehlers-Platz
Tempelhof-Schönberg	4 p.m.	Former synagogue memorial site, 38 Münchener Straße
Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf	Silent march 4:30 p.m.; closing rally from 5 p.m.	Silent march, then closing rally (place not given here)

Why Nov. 9 is also a somber date in German history

Berlin.de names four events that fall on Nov. 9, and the fall of the wall is the last of them in time.

Year	Event on Nov. 9 (Berlin.de)
1918	Proclamation of the German Republic
1923	The Hitler Putsch
1938	The Night of Broken Glass
1989	The fall of the Berlin Wall

The pogroms of 1938 escalated overnight into Nov. 10, and the Pankow entry on Berlin.de refers to them directly.

What is Berlin Freedom Week?

Berlin Freedom Week is a programme the city lists on Berlin.de for Nov. 7 to 14, 2026. One entry from its own site is dated: the Freedom and Security Women Summit takes place on Nov. 9, 2026, in the German Bundestag, with no time given. The Berlin.de page was last edited on Nov. 5, 2026.

Other programme items, including a Storytelling Salon and a Berlin Freedom Conference, appear only in a search summary and are not confirmed here. Some secondary sites call a Women Liberty Congress the kickoff; the official programme lists the opening as Nov. 7 to 8, so the official dates are used.

Is the Berlin Wall Memorial ceremony confirmed?

No. The Berlin Wall Foundation’s homepage loaded on Nov. 8 but listed no Nov. 9, 2026 programme, and its memorial page was not opened. A secondary Berlin guide labels Nov. 9 items “35 years”, which looks carried over from 2024; the 37th anniversary comes from the city’s own page. This story will carry the memorial’s time and place once the foundation publishes them.
