Black Friday is Friday, Nov. 27, 2026, and most big chains will open their doors between 5 and 6 a.m. after closing for Thanksgiving. Home Depot is the first major retailer to publish its 2026 hours: closed on Thursday, Nov. 26, and open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday. Lowe’s says its stores will also close on Thanksgiving. For Walmart, Target, Best Buy and the rest, last year’s hours are the best guide until each chain confirms. Below: the opening times, who closes on Thanksgiving, when the online sales start, and a free planner in three styles.

The 2025 hours come from The Associated Press’s Black Friday roundup, and Home Depot’s from its newsroom. Hours can differ by location, especially in malls, so check your store’s page the night before.

Which stores close on Thanksgiving

Most national chains now stay closed on Thanksgiving Day. For 2026, Home Depot and Lowe’s have confirmed it; Lowe’s said its stores “will remain closed on Thanksgiving Day” while online deals continue. Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Costco, Kohl’s, Macy’s and Dick’s all closed on Thanksgiving in 2025. Grocery stores and pharmacies are the main exception: many open on Thanksgiving morning with shorter hours, so check before you go. When the deals start

Black Friday sales now run for weeks before the day itself. Lowe’s starts “Four Weeks of Black Friday Deals” on Oct. 29, followed by 12 Days of Deals beginning Nov. 16, with early online access for MyLowe’s Rewards members. Last year Walmart ran its Black Friday Deals events from Nov. 14 to 16 and Nov. 25 to 30, and Amazon’s Black Friday Week ran Nov. 20 to Dec. 1. Both have yet to announce 2026 dates.
