Fairfax County Public Schools Calendar 2026-27: Winter Break Dec. 21-Jan. 3, Spring Break Mar. 22-26

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has winter break from Monday, Dec. 21, 2026 to Sunday, Jan. 3, 2027, and spring break from Monday to Friday, March 22-26, 2027, according to its “2026-2027 Standard School Year Calendar” (PDF). The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 24, 2026, and the last day for regular classes is Wednesday, June 16, 2027. The calendar does not print the date the board approved it. The next two dates are Friday, Oct. 30, a two-hour early release for the end of quarter 1, and Tuesday, Nov. 3, Election Day, a Teacher Workday (TW) that is a student holiday.

How many school days off does the calendar count?

Winter break is the longest stretch, with 10 weekdays from Monday, Dec. 21 to Friday, Jan. 1. The PDF reads “21- January 3 Winter Break” and does not print a return day, so the break ends Sunday, Jan. 3, and the next weekday is Monday, Jan. 4. Plan the holiday weeks on the December 2026 calendar.

Which days are early release?

Quarter-end days are a two-hour early release for all schools. The footer also lists “Limited Early Release Wednesdays,” three hours early for elementary schools. The calendar does not print those Wednesday dates; the FCPS page on Limited Early Release Wednesdays has them.

Are FCPS schools closed for religious observances and other dates in the footer?

Yom Kippur, Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, is marked H, a holiday. Other dates appear in the footer list of holidays and observances, and an observance there does not by itself mean no school.

• Rosh Hashanah, Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, falls on a weekend and appears only in the footer.
• Diwali, Sunday, Nov. 8, 2026, is a footer observance.
• Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026, is listed among observances; the calendar does not mark it as a day off.
• Lunar New Year, Saturday, Feb. 6, 2027, falls on a weekend.
• Eid al-Fitr, Tuesday, March 9, 2027, is footer-listed as “begins sundown 3/8 - 3/10.” The calendar notes that some holidays “may shift due to anticipated lunar sightings.”
• Eid al-Adha, Monday, May 17, 2027, is a footer observance. For both Eid dates, confirm with FCPS or your school whether classes meet.
• Juneteenth (Observed), Friday, June 18, 2027, falls after the last day for regular classes.
