Spring Break 2027: Dates for 10 Large U.S. School Districts, and Why Five Are Off the Week of Mar. 22

Five of 10 large U.S. school districts are off Monday, Mar. 22 through Friday, Mar. 26, 2027 for spring break, according to the 2026-27 calendars the districts publish. The rest are scattered from Monday, Mar. 8 in Houston to Friday, Apr. 30 in New York City.

We read each calendar on the district’s own website or in its official PDF. Easter Sunday is Mar. 28, 2027 and Passover begins at sundown on Apr. 21, 2027, dates listed on the official Fairfax County and Dallas calendars. For the holiday itself, see when is Easter.

Houston’s calendar was updated Apr. 6, 2026, and Philadelphia’s board approved its calendar on Feb. 26, 2026.

Which week is spring break most often?

Counting the 10 districts above, the week of Mar. 22 is the most common, with five. It is the week before Easter, and it ends on Good Friday, Mar. 26.

Week of	Districts	Count
Mar. 8	Houston	1
Mar. 15	Clark County, Dallas	2
Mar. 22	Chicago, Broward County, Palm Beach County, Fairfax County, Philadelphia	5
Apr. 5	Gwinnett County	1
Apr. 22	New York City	1

That count covers only these 10 districts, not all U.S. schools. No district in the table breaks the week of Mar. 29, the week after Easter, or the weeks of Apr. 12 and Apr. 19 in full.

Notes on specific districts

• New York City: Spring recess runs Thursday, Apr. 22 through Friday, Apr. 30, seven weekdays, the longest break in the table. Passover begins at sundown on Wednesday, Apr. 21, the evening before it starts. Good Friday, Mar. 26, is a separate closure on the NYC calendar. Our NYC public schools calendar story has every holiday.
• Chicago: The 2026-2027 CPS Family Calendar lists Mar. 22-26. See our Chicago Public Schools calendar story for the full year.
• Clark County: The district marks its calendar “Subject to change”. Classes resume Monday, Mar. 22.
• Dallas: Friday, Mar. 26 is also a student holiday, a week after the Mar. 15-19 break.
• Palm Beach County: The same Key Dates page lists Wednesday, Mar. 10, 2027 as a separate “Spring Holiday”, two weeks before the Mar. 22-26 break.
• Philadelphia: The break is four weekdays, Monday through Thursday.

How to plan around spring break 2027

Before booking, confirm the dates on your own district’s calendar, because a district can change them. Clark County says so on its calendar. Mark the week on our printable school-year calendar and on the March and April monthly calendars, or print the one-page table below. Our winter break 2026 story lists the earlier break in the school year for many of the same districts.
