Philadelphia School District Calendar 2026-27: Winter Recess Dec. 23-31, Spring Recess Mar. 22-26, Eid Days

The School District of Philadelphia (SDP) is closed for students and staff from Wednesday, Dec. 23 to Thursday, Dec. 31, 2026, for Winter Recess, according to its “Academic Calendar” for 2026-27, which the board approved on Feb. 26, 2026 (page last modified Sept. 15, 2026). New Year’s Day, Friday, Jan. 1, 2027, is a separate closure. Spring Recess is Monday to Thursday, March 22-25, 2027, and Good Friday, March 26, is also a closure. The next closure is Tuesday, Nov. 3, Election Day.

Winter Recess is the longest stretch, with seven weekdays from Dec. 23 to Dec. 31. Add New Year’s Day and the closure covers eight weekdays, Dec. 23 to Jan. 1. Are Philadelphia schools closed for Eid, Yom Kippur or Good Friday?

Yes for all four of these. The calendar closes schools on Monday, Sept. 21, 2026 for Yom Kippur, on Wednesday, March 10, 2027 for Eid al-Fitr, on Friday, March 26, 2027 for Good Friday and on Monday, May 17, 2027 for Eid al-Adha.

Some other dates appear on the calendar without a closure. Rosh Hashanah is listed on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, with no closure listed, and Lunar New Year is listed on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2027. Juneteenth, Friday, June 18, 2027, shows only “Admin Offices Closed,” and it falls after the last day for students.

When is Philadelphia spring break 2027?

Spring Recess is Monday through Thursday, March 22-25, 2027. Good Friday follows on March 26, so schools are closed for five weekdays in a row, Monday to Friday. When does the school year start and end?

Monday, Aug. 24, 2026 is the first day for students in grades 1-12, and kindergarten starts on Thursday, Aug. 27. The last day of school for students is Wednesday, June 9, 2027, a full day, and Thursday, June 10 is the last day for staff. The calendar lists no early dismissal days.
