Nevada Day is observed Friday, Oct. 30, 2026, a state legal holiday under Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) 236.015, which sets it on the last Friday in October. The statute reads: “Nevada Day is October 31 but is to be observed on the last Friday in October.” State, county and city offices, courts, public schools and the Nevada System of Higher Education must close, and in-person early voting for the Nov. 3 general election still runs that day.
Is Nevada Day a holiday in 2026?
Yes. Subsection 2 of NRS 236.015, published by the Nevada Legislature, says that “except as otherwise provided by NRS 293.560 and 293C.527, all state, county and city offices, courts, public schools and the Nevada System of Higher Education must close on the legal holidays enumerated in subsection 1.” The two exceptions are in election law. The Washoe County holiday calendar lists “Nevada Day, Friday, October 30, 2026,” and the Nevada Department of Taxation lists an “offices closed” event for the same date.
Oct. 31, 2026 is a Saturday, so the anniversary itself falls on Halloween. President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed Nevada a state on Oct. 31, 1864, according to the Nevada Constitution as published by the Nevada Legislature, which makes 2026 the 162nd anniversary.

| Courts | Closed under NRS 236.015 |

| Federal offices and the U.S. Postal Service | Normal schedules; Nevada Day is not on the federal holiday list |
The Clark County School District and the Washoe County School District have not been confirmed here for 2026, so families should check the district calendar. We did not confirm bank hours, so ask your bank.
Can you vote early on Nevada Day?
Yes. NRS 293.3568 says: “The period for early voting by personal appearance begins the third Saturday preceding a primary or general election and extends through the Friday before election day, Sundays and federal holidays excepted.”
For the Nov. 3, 2026 general election, that period runs from Saturday, Oct. 17 through Friday, Oct. 30. The statute excepts federal holidays, and Nevada Day is a state holiday, so the exception does not apply. Friday, Oct. 30 is the last day of in-person early voting even though county offices are otherwise closed.
Check your county clerk’s early voting page for sites and hours: the Clark County Election Department or the Washoe County Registrar of Voters. For mail ballots, see our mail ballot deadlines by state, and for the wider picture, which states are voting now.
