NYC High School Admissions 2027: Applications Close Friday, Dec. 4; Offers Come March 3

New York City (NYC) high school applications for fall 2027 close Friday, Dec. 4, 2026, and offers are scheduled for Wednesday, March 3, 2027, after 3 p.m., according to the NYC Public Schools “Fall 2027 High School Admissions Timeline.” Dec. 4 is 27 days after Nov. 7. The same page says the dates “are subject to change” and that any changes “will be announced and communicated directly to families.”

The High School and LaGuardia applications both close that day. The timeline gives no closing time for Dec. 4, so submit well before the end of the day rather than at the last minute. Our one-page printable, “NYC High School Admissions Dates 2026-27,” is below the story; it counts down to Dec. 4 and notes the March 3 offer date in its footer note.

Which NYC high school admissions dates are left?

The application opened Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, and Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT) registration closed Friday, Oct. 30. Everything still ahead as of Nov. 7 is below. Days left count from Nov. 7.

Date	Day	Days left	What happens	Source
Nov. 10	Tuesday	3	Virtual Fall General Information Session in Mandarin, 6-7 p.m.	NYC Public Schools, High School page
Nov. 14	Saturday	7	SHSAT weekend testing	Testing Calendar
Nov. 15	Sunday	8	SHSAT weekend testing	Testing Calendar
Nov. 18	Wednesday	11	SHSAT School Day	High School page, Testing Calendar
Nov. 21	Saturday	14	SHSAT weekend testing	Testing Calendar
Nov. 23	Monday	16	Virtual Fall General Information Session, 5-6 p.m.	High School page
Dec. 4	Friday	27	High School and LaGuardia applications close	High School page
March 3, 2027	Wednesday	116	High school offer release, after 3 p.m.	High School page

The page lists the Nov. 10 and Nov. 23 sessions as virtual. Weekdays and day counts are computed from the calendar.

What should families do before Dec. 4?

NYC Public Schools’ own instructions point to a short list:

• Confirm who can apply. NYC lists two requirements: a NYC resident, and a current eighth grade or first-time ninth grade student.
• Apply to 12 or more options. The page says “we recommend you apply to at least twelve” and that you can add any number of programs. Twelve is a recommendation, not a limit.
• Rank in your true order. NYC says to “always place the programs on your application in your true order of preference.”
• Where to submit: online or through a school counselor. Both routes are listed.
• Check your SHSAT date. The Specialized High Schools page says “all registered students will be scheduled for a SHSAT testing date in November.”
• Upload auditions before the deadline. All audition schools, including LaGuardia High School, accept virtual auditions, and they “must be uploaded to MySchools during the application period.”

Students can also apply to the eight testing Specialized High Schools and to any or all of LaGuardia High School’s six arts programs.

What changes for the SHSAT this year?

NYC says that “beginning in fall 2026, the SHSAT will move to a computer-adaptive test.” Students who take it this fall “will have the opportunity to sign up for a Test View in the Spring of 2027.” The Specialized High Schools page adds that after the test, “in the spring,” NYC will contact students if they are eligible for a Discovery program.

When do SHSAT results come out?

The fall 2026 score release and the specialized high school offer date were not listed when we checked on Nov. 7. Last year, the NYC Public Schools page said “As of March 5, results are now available” for the Fall 2025 test. Treat that as last year’s timing, not this year’s date.

Which NYC admissions dates are not posted yet?

As of Nov. 7, 2026, we found no LaGuardia audition dates, SHSAT make-up dates or waitlist and appeal dates on the pages above. The closing time on Dec. 4 is also missing. Check MySchools and your child’s school for updates.

How does this compare with Chicago?

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) closes its GoCPS application for the 2027-28 school year at 5:00 PM on Nov. 13, 2026; see GoCPS 2027-28 application deadline and offers.

Which other school dates matter this winter?

For school breaks this year, see the NYC Public Schools calendar for 2026-27 and, for younger students, kindergarten registration dates for 2027-28. Students also applying to college can check early decision deadlines. Mark the days on our December 2026 printable calendar, the March 2027 printable calendar or the printable school-year calendar.
