Omaha Public Schools Calendar 2026-27: Recess Nov. 23-27, Dec. 21-Jan. 4 and March 15-19

Omaha Public Schools (OPS) has no school Nov. 23-27, 2026, Dec. 21 to Jan. 4 and March 15-19, 2027, by the district’s “Omaha Public Schools 2026-2027 Calendar” PDF, which is printed “Updated 4/7/2026”. The last student day is Wednesday, May 26, 2027, when the fourth quarter ends. Thanksgiving Recess is the next long stretch off.

We read the dates from the PDF and checked the hours against the district’s Calendars & School Hours page. We found no board approval date for the 2026-27 calendar, and the PDF names no snow-day make-up rule, so neither is covered here.

Which OPS days off are still ahead this school year?

Every no-school day, grade-specific day and late start from Nov. 9, 2026 on. Weekdays are computed from the dates. The calendar gives no names for the single days marked “No School For All Students”, so the table does not invent any.

When is the OPS Thanksgiving recess in 2026?

Thanksgiving Recess is Monday-Friday, Nov. 23-27, 2026, with no school for all students. Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, Nov. 26, inside the week. With the weekends on both sides, students are out nine days in a row, Saturday, Nov. 21 through Sunday, Nov. 29 (our count). The calendar prints no return date, so Monday, Nov. 30 is our reading. For other districts’ dates around the holiday, see our winter break 2026 roundup.

When is OPS winter recess in 2026-27?

Winter Recess runs Monday, Dec. 21, 2026 to Monday, Jan. 4, 2027, with no school for all students. That is 11 weekdays by our count: five in the week of Dec. 21, five in the week of Dec. 28 and Jan. 4. The second quarter ends Friday, Dec. 18, and the third quarter begins Tuesday, Jan. 5. Counting the weekend before, students are off 17 days in a row, Dec. 19 through Jan. 4. See the December 2026 printable calendar to mark the week.

When is Omaha Public Schools spring recess in 2027?

Spring Recess is Monday-Friday, March 15-19, 2027, and the fourth quarter begins Monday, March 22. The third quarter ends Wednesday, March 10, and the calendar says all conferences are the week of March 8, with no school for all students on Thursday-Friday, March 11-12. Put together, students are off from Thursday, March 11 through Sunday, March 21, which is 11 days in a row (our count). For other districts’ spring weeks, see our spring break 2027 roundup.

Which OPS long weekends does the calendar create?

Single no-school days sit next to weekends and each other. By our count from the district’s dates:

Stretch	Days in a row without students	Back in class
Sat., Nov. 21 to Sun., Nov. 29, 2026	9	Mon., Nov. 30 (our reading)
Sat., Dec. 19, 2026 to Mon., Jan. 4, 2027	17	Tue., Jan. 5
Fri., Feb. 12 to Mon., Feb. 15, 2027	4	Tue., Feb. 16 (our reading)
Thu., March 11 to Sun., March 21, 2027	11	Mon., March 22
Fri., April 16 to Mon., April 19, 2027	4	Tue., April 20 (our reading)

From Nov. 23 through the end of the year, the all-student no-school weekdays above add up to 28: five at Thanksgiving, 11 in winter recess, three in January and February, two in March conferences, five in spring recess and two in April (our sum; it leaves out the grade-specific days and Memorial Day).

What happened on the OPS calendar from August to early November?

These dates are past. The calendar uses a staggered start, marked with an asterisk: kindergarten and entry-level grades at middle and high school started Aug. 19, all other K-12 students on Aug. 20, and Pre-K students on Aug. 26.

Date	Who	District wording
Sept. 4 and 11, 2026	Alternative programs	No school for students in Blackburn and other alternative programs

What are OPS school hours, and what do other OPS calendars say?

The district lists these hours on its calendar and on its calendars page:

Level	Hours
Elementary	8:50 a.m. to 4:05 p.m.
Middle school	7:40 a.m. to 3:05 p.m.
High school	7:40 a.m. to 3:05 p.m.

At Wilson and the alternative programs, the calendar says to check with the school for start and end times. Some schools and programs follow a different calendar. The Early Childhood calendar lists extra no-school days for early childhood students, including Nov. 20 and Dec. 18, and others; check that PDF before planning. Wilson Focus Elementary runs its own calendar: its first student day is Aug. 4, winter recess is Dec. 21 to Jan. 1 with no school Jan. 4, there is no school March 22-26, and the last student day is June 16, 2027.

Use the printable school-year calendar 2026-27 page for a blank sheet, and the sheet attached to this story to mark each OPS recess.
