Boston Public Schools Calendar 2026-27: February and April Recess, June 22 Last Day

Boston Public Schools (BPS) has no school on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026 (Veterans Day), Nov. 26-27, Dec. 24 to Jan. 1, Feb. 16-19 and April 20-23, 2027, by the district’s “SY26-27 BPS District Calendar” PDF, whose footer reads “Reviewed on 03/23/2026”. The last day of school is Tuesday, June 22, 2027, and seniors finish Monday, June 7. Boston has two recess weeks after the winter holidays, one around Presidents’ Day and one around Patriots’ Day, and the calendar counts a 185th day on June 29. The Sept. 7 and Oct. 12 days off have passed, so Veterans Day is next.

The review date is a stamp in the footer. We found no School Committee vote date on the calendar, so we do not give one.

The district prints a return date for winter, February and spring recess. It prints none for Thanksgiving, so Nov. 30 is read from the table, which marks no closure that day. Dec. 21-23, 2026 are school days on this calendar, because winter recess starts Dec. 24 (our reading of the table). Teachers and paraprofessionals report Mon., Jan. 4, a day before students. Wednesday, Nov. 25 is an early release day for students and school staff, so the Thanksgiving week starts a day earlier for many families. Mon., Jan. 4 is a report day for teachers and paraprofessionals, and the calendar says students return Jan. 5, so students are out that day too.

The calendar lists the first day at UP Academies Dorchester as still to be determined. By our count, seniors finish 10 student days before the June 22 last day, the gap between 170 and 180.

What happens to the BPS last day if snow days are lost?

The only rule on the calendar is in the June 22 line: the 180th day falls on that Tuesday “if no days are lost due to cancellations.” A separate line counts June 29 as the “185th day required for calendar purposes.” The calendar states no make-up rule beyond those two lines, and it does not say which days would be used. By our count, there are five weekdays between June 22 and June 29 (June 23, 24, 25, 28 and 29), the same number as the gap between 180 and 185.

How do February and April recess fit together in Boston?

The calendar lists a Monday holiday in front of each recess: Presidents’ Day, Feb. 15, with February Recess on Feb. 16-19, and Patriots’ Day, April 19, with Spring Recess on April 20-23.
