Do Powerball and Mega Millions draw on Thanksgiving and Christmas?

We found no holiday statement on powerball.com or megamillions.com, so nothing here says a drawing moves or is skipped. Thanksgiving is Thursday, Nov. 26, 2026, and neither game draws on a Thursday. Christmas Day, Dec. 25, is a Friday, which is a Mega Millions night. Check the official sites before then. Plan the season with our November 2026 printable calendar and December 2026 printable calendar.

How do Powerball and Mega Millions differ?

	Powerball	Mega Millions

How long do you have to claim a lottery prize?

In Florida, Georgia and Texas the limit is 180 days: the Florida Lottery says Powerball prizes must be claimed within 180 days after the winning drawing date, Georgia gives 180 days, and the Texas Lottery says tickets must be claimed no later than 180 days after the draw date. Other states set their own claim periods, so read your own lottery’s rules and sign the back of your ticket as it directs.

Lottery age limits are set by each state. If gambling is a problem for you or someone you know, the National Council on Problem Gambling helpline is 1-800-Gambler, and its site is ncpgambling.org.
