State exchanges set their own 2027 open enrollment deadlines: Idaho’s Your Health Idaho ends Dec. 15, Vermont Health Connect ends Dec. 28, and Covered California and New Jersey’s exchange run through Jan. 31, 2027, each according to its own site or press release. HealthCare.gov closes Friday, Jan. 15, 2027, per the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This page is the state lookup for the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace; the federal window, and why it was not shortened, is in our HealthCare.gov dates story.
ACA open enrollment deadlines for 2027 by state
We read each exchange’s official page or press release on Nov. 6, 2026. A blank “not confirmed” cell means that exchange’s page did not state the date in the sources we could read, not that no deadline exists.

Which dates stand out?
Among the 16 state exchanges in the table:
- Earliest start: Your Health Idaho opens Thursday, Oct. 15, and Connecticut’s open enrollment began Friday, Oct. 23, according to the Connecticut Insurance Department’s July 15, 2026 notice. HealthCare.gov and the other exchanges that state an opening day use Nov. 1.
- Earliest end: Idaho closes Tuesday, Dec. 15, the same day HealthCare.gov’s Jan. 1 coverage deadline falls. Vermont Health Connect closes Monday, Dec. 28.
- Latest end: Covered California’s release says enrollment runs “through Jan. 31, 2027,” and the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance says the same date for GetCoveredNJ. Both ask people to enroll by Dec. 31 for Jan. 1 coverage.
- Jan. 15 closers: Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Nevada, New Mexico and Oregon list Jan. 15, 2027, the same as HealthCare.gov. Maryland does too, according to two Maryland newsrooms, the first (WYPR) and the second (WMAR), branded WMAR 2 News.
If you live in one of the states that ends Dec. 15 or Dec. 28, do not assume the Jan. 15 date you see in national coverage applies to you.
Which states have their own exchange, and what changed in Oregon?
CMS’s State-based Exchanges page, updated Aug. 13, 2026, lists 21 state-based exchanges for plan year 2026 and Oregon as transitioning for 2027. Oregon Health Authority (OHA) confirmed the switch in its Nov. 2, 2026 release: Explore Health “replaces the federal platform HealthCare.gov,” open enrollment runs Nov. 1, 2026, through Jan. 15, 2027, and people “should enroll by Dec. 31 for coverage that begins Jan. 1, 2027.”
Maryland: what two newsrooms report
We did not confirm the Maryland dates on the Maryland Health Connection site, so the end date rests on two independent reports. WYPR (Nov. 2, 2026) says enrollment “will stay open until Jan. 15, 2027,” and WMAR 2 News reports the same Jan. 15, 2027 end. The Dec. 31 deadline for Jan. 1 coverage that WMAR 2 News gives appears in only one report, so it is not confirmed on Maryland Health Connection and is left out of the table.
Exchanges whose 2027 dates are not confirmed
We could not confirm 2027 dates on an official page for the District of Columbia (DC Health Link), Massachusetts (Massachusetts Health Connector), New York (NY State of Health), Pennsylvania (Pennie), Rhode Island (HealthSource RI) and Virginia (Virginia’s Insurance Marketplace). Check the exchange directly. States that have no exchange of their own use HealthCare.gov and its Nov. 1 to Jan. 15 window.
ACA deadline dates to mark on your calendar
Pencil in the dates that apply to your exchange: Dec. 15 on the December 2026 calendar, Dec. 31 for the exchanges that ask for it by then, and Jan. 15 or Jan. 31 on the January 2027 calendar. The November 2026 calendar shows the Nov. 1 opening day. Our free printable puts the same dates for HealthCare.gov and the 16 exchanges on one page; it is under the downloads on this page. People with Medicare have a separate window; see Medicare open enrollment, ending Dec. 7.

Frequently asked questions
What is the open enrollment deadline for 2027 by state?
It depends on the exchange. Of the 16 state exchanges in our table, nine end Jan. 15, 2027, California and New Jersey end Jan. 31, Vermont ends Dec. 28 and Idaho ends Dec. 15. Maine, Minnesota and Washington have not confirmed a closing date on the pages we read.
When does Covered California open enrollment 2027 end?
Covered California said in its Oct. 30, 2026 release that open enrollment runs Nov. 1, 2026 through Jan. 31, 2027, and that people should apply by Dec. 31 for coverage starting Jan. 1.
Which states have their own exchanges?
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) listed 21 state-based exchanges for plan year 2026 on a page updated Aug. 13, 2026, with Oregon transitioning for 2027. States that do not run an exchange use HealthCare.gov.
What if my state is not in the table?
The District of Columbia, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Virginia run exchanges whose 2027 dates we could not confirm on an official page. Check DC Health Link, the Massachusetts Health Connector, NY State of Health, Pennie, HealthSource RI and Virginia's Insurance Marketplace directly.
Does enrolling after Dec. 15 still give me coverage?
On HealthCare.gov, Dec. 15 is the last day to enroll or change plans for coverage to start Jan. 1, and the window stays open to Jan. 15. Exchanges that print a second deadline, such as Connecticut, Georgia and Washington, start later enrollments on Feb. 1.
