Black Friday, Friday, Nov. 27, 2026, is not on the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) list of 2026 postal holidays, and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and Nasdaq both close early at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET). The USPS list names Thursday, Nov. 26, Thanksgiving Day, as the holiday with no mail service. USPS publishes a list headed “2026 postal holidays (no mail service)”, and its entry for the week is “Thursday, November 26: Thanksgiving Day.” Nov. 27 is not on that list. USPS does not say anything about Black Friday retail hours, so check your own Post Office in the USPS location finder. USPS had not posted 2026 holiday shipping deadlines on that page as of Nov. 7. UPS and FedEx set their own holiday service, so check UPS’s and FedEx’s own holiday schedules.

Are banks open on Black Friday 2026?

The Federal Reserve’s “Holidays Observed - K.8” page (last updated July 8, 2026) lists Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, and does not list Nov. 27. So Black Friday is not a Federal Reserve holiday. Bank branch hours are set by each bank, and most follow their own schedules, so check your branch before you go.

Is Black Friday a federal holiday?

No. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) lists “Thursday, November 26” as Thanksgiving Day and does not list Nov. 27 among the federal holidays. When does the stock market close on Black Friday 2026?

The NYSE says: “Each market will close early at 1:00 p.m. (1:15 p.m. for eligible options) on Friday, November 27, 2026.” Nasdaq Trader lists “November 27, 2026 Early Close* - U.S. 1:00 p.m.” Both exchanges are closed on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26.

The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) recommends a different time for the bond market. Its 2026 recommendations list an “Early Close (2:00 p.m. Eastern Time)” for Friday, Nov. 27. SIFMA’s schedule is a recommendation for bond trading, so keep the 1:00 p.m. stock close and the 2:00 p.m. bond recommendation apart.
