Newark Public Schools Calendar 2026-27: No School Dec. 24-Jan. 1, Last Day June 28

Newark Public Schools (NPS) students have Thanksgiving off on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 26-27, 2026, and the district’s calendar lists no school days from Thursday, Dec. 24, 2026 to Friday, Jan. 1, 2027, according to the Newark Board of Education’s 2026-2027 school calendar, approved Jan. 22, 2026. Spring Recess is March 29 to April 2, 2027, and the last day of school is Monday, June 28, 2027.

Classes began Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, the day after Labor Day, and the fall’s first holiday, Indigenous Peoples’ Day, was Monday, Oct. 12, so this story looks ahead from Nov. 8. It adds the weekday and the weekdays off for every closure still to come, a list of the 1 p.m. early-dismissal days, the district’s weather make-up rule and a printable school-year calendar.

Newark Public Schools breaks still ahead in 2026-27

Weekdays off are our arithmetic from the district’s dates. The calendar prints the labels in the middle column.

Break	What the calendar lists	Weekdays off (our count)
Thanksgiving	Thu., Nov. 26 to Fri., Nov. 27, 2026: “Holiday: Thanksgiving”	2
Winter break	Thu., Dec. 24, 2026 to Fri., Jan. 1, 2027: Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Winter Recess, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day	7
Spring recess	Mon., March 29 to Fri., April 2, 2027: “Spring Recess”	5

Only Jan. 1 carries the word “Holiday” in the winter stretch; Dec. 24 and 25 are labeled “Christmas Eve” and “Christmas Day”, Dec. 28-30 “Winter Recess” and Dec. 31 “New Year’s Eve”. The calendar lists no closure on Monday, Jan. 4, 2027, and it does not print a return date. See the December 2026 printable calendar for the weeks around the break.

Newark early dismissal days 2026-27: which days end at 1 p.m.?

The calendar lists five 1 p.m. dismissals, two for students and staff and three for students only.

Mon., Feb. 8, 2027	Parent/Teacher Conference	Students

Nov. 25 comes the day before Thanksgiving and Dec. 23 the day before the winter stretch begins.

How long is Newark spring recess 2027?

The calendar lists Spring Recess on March 29-31 and April 1-2, 2027, Monday to Friday. It also lists Good Friday on Friday, March 26, so students are off from Friday, March 26 through Friday, April 2: 6 weekdays by our count. Easter Sunday is March 28, 2027. See the March 2027 printable calendar to mark the week.

What happens if Newark schools close for snow?

The calendar’s note reads: “In the event that schools must close for inclement weather and it is necessary to make up days, days will be made up during Spring Recess or added at the end of the school year.” Any make-up days could therefore shorten the spring break or push the last day of school past June 28.

Every Newark no-school day left in 2026-27, with weekdays

The district’s calendar lists these closures from Nov. 8, 2026. Staff Development Days #4 and #5 are marked “Schools Closed for Students” on the district’s calendar page. Puerto Rico Heritage Day is printed as “Holiday: Puerto Rico Heritage Day (Observance)”.

Date	What the calendar lists	Weekdays off (our count)
Wed., Nov. 11, 2026	Holiday: Veterans Day	1
Fri., Nov. 20, 2026	Holiday: Puerto Rico Heritage Day (Observance)	1

Mon., May 31, 2027	Holiday: Memorial Day	1
Fri., June 18, 2027	Holiday: Juneteenth	1

Those rows add up to 24 weekdays off by our count. The calendar lists Juneteenth on Friday, June 18, 2027. Staff Development Days #1 to #3 and the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) Convention, Nov. 5-6, are on the calendar too; this story does not list them as closures because the calendar does not say whether students attend.

How many school days does the Newark calendar have?

The calendar totals 182 student days and 188 teacher days, a note says September 4 is not a work day for 10-month members of the Newark Teachers Union (NTU), and it names Roger León as superintendent. The monthly counts it prints for students run from 15 in November to 20 in April and May. Our Philadelphia and New York City calendar stories cover those districts, and the winter break 2026 school districts story compares more.
