Alternate Side Parking (ASP) is suspended in New York City on Wednesday, Nov. 11, Thursday, Nov. 26, Tuesday, Dec. 8 and Friday, Dec. 25, 2026, the NYC311 service and the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) say on their ASP pages, read Nov. 4, 2026. Diwali, Sunday, Nov. 8, is also on the list. Meters are suspended only on the two dates the city marks as major legal holidays, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. A one-page printable list of the dates is on this page.
Which NYC alternate side parking suspension dates are left in 2026?
The 311 page is headed “ASP is suspended on the following holidays in 2026.” Two earlier dates are already past: Sunday, Nov. 1 (All Saints’ Day) and Tuesday, Nov. 3 (Election Day). The days-until count below starts from Nov. 4, 2026.
| Date | Holiday | Days from Nov. 4 | Street cleaning (ASP) | Parking meters | What still applies |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sunday, Nov. 8 | Diwali | 4 | Suspended | You do not have to pay (311) | Other posted rules |
| Wednesday, Nov. 11 | Veterans Day | 7 | Suspended | In effect | Meters and all other posted rules |
| Thursday, Nov. 26 | Thanksgiving Day* | 22 | Suspended | Suspended | No Stopping, No Standing and No Parking signs generally |
| Tuesday, Dec. 8 | Immaculate Conception | 34 | Suspended | In effect | Meters and all other posted rules |
| Friday, Dec. 25 | Christmas Day* | 51 | Suspended | Suspended | No Stopping, No Standing and No Parking signs generally |
The asterisk follows the 311 key: “*Indicates a major legal holiday.” On Sunday, Nov. 8, ASP is not in effect anyway, and 311 says “you do not have to pay the parking meters.”
Do parking meters stay on during an alternate side parking holiday?
It depends on the holiday. DOT writes: “Parking meter regulations are also suspended on major legal holidays.” It adds: “On all other holidays, only street cleaning rules are suspended. All other regulations remain in effect.” So on Veterans Day and Dec. 8, you still pay the meter. On Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day you do not.
Suspended street cleaning is not a free-for-all. 311 says: “When ASP is suspended, you must still follow any other posted parking time limits and rules.” On major legal holidays, 311 says “No Stopping, No Standing, or No Parking signs generally still apply unless they are in effect seven days a week.”
How do you check if alternate side parking is in effect today?
311 offers ASP status for a specific day in three places: NYC311 Online, the NYC311 app and the city’s alternate side parking account on X. DOT adds: “Check NYC 311 or Notify NYC for emergency suspension information.”
Can the city suspend alternate side parking for snow or an emergency?
Yes. DOT says NYC may suspend ASP regulations because of inclement weather or emergencies, and that decisions are sometimes made late in the day. 311 says ASP rules “and sometimes parking meters may be suspended for severe weather or other emergencies.” DOT also says NYC restores ASP regulations after a snowfall. These suspensions are not on the holiday list, so check the status the same day.
Is the 2027 alternate side parking calendar posted yet?
Not yet. On Nov. 4, 2026, both the 311 and the DOT pages listed only the 2025 and 2026 calendars, so this story does not state whether Jan. 1, 2027 is a suspension day. Check the two pages in December.
Printable list of the remaining 2026 suspension dates
The printable on this page lists the five dates with the street cleaning and meter status for each. Pair it with the November 2026 printable calendar and the December 2026 printable calendar.
Two of the dates have their own stories: what is open and closed on Veterans Day 2026 and Immaculate Conception on Tuesday, Dec. 8. Trash collection also changes around Christmas in several cities, including New York City.
