Saturday’s Pips from The New York Times (NYT), Nov. 7, 2026, gives Hard solvers every value but one and asks only how the dominoes pair up. Ian Livengood made Easy and Medium; Rodolfo Kurchan made Hard. A board of single-cell sums reads differently from the usual mix, and our Pips page covers what each region type means. Placements at the bottom come from the Times’ data, checked region by region.

Where each Pips board starts on Nov. 7

Rows are numbered from the top and columns from the left, so R4C1 is row 4, column 1.

Easy. R2C2, R2C3 and R2C4 must all match. Three matching halves are needed, and only the 4 appears three times: twice on the 4-4 and once on the 4-2. The 3s and 5s show up twice each. So all three cells are 4s.

Medium. R2C1 must be under 2, and with no 1 on the board it is a 0. Its only neighbor is R2C2, which must total more than 9 with R1C2. The 2-0 would put a 2 in R2C2 and ask R1C2 for an 8, so the opening domino is the 6-0 or the 0-5.

Hard. Only one domino has a 6, the 3-6, and the only cell that can hold a 6 is R4C1, the one cell with no fixed value. R4C1 touches R3C1, which must be 1, and R4C2, which must be 3. So the 3-6 lies across R4C1 and R4C2.

Saturday’s Pips hints, Nov. 7, 2026

Easy (five dominoes: 4-4, 5-1, 3-3, 4-2, 0-5)

  • Hint 1R3C3 must be exactly 5. The 5-1 and the 0-5 are the two dominoes with a 5.
  • Hint 2R3C4 and R3C5 add up to 5, and R4C5 below them can only pair with R3C5.

Medium (seven dominoes: 2-0, 2-2, 6-0, 5-5, 2-3, 4-2, 0-5)

  • Hint 1R1C2 and R2C2 must total 10 or more. Only the 4s, 5s and 6s can help there, and a 4 needs a 6 beside it.
  • Hint 2R2C4 must be a 2. Five halves show a 2, so check the neighbors instead: R3C4 and R3C5 must match.

Hard (sixteen dominoes on a six-row board)

  • Hint 1Thirty-one cells have a fixed value. For each one, ask which neighbor it could share an existing domino with.
  • Hint 2There are no doubles, so two touching cells with the same value never share a domino.

Reading the boards before you check

Easy has three cells without a condition: R1C1, R3C2 and R4C5. Leave them until the rest is placed. Medium has two equal pairs and two greater-than pairs on a board three rows tall. On Hard, list each cell’s legal partners; any cell with a single legal partner is a placed domino, and each placement removes options next door.

Frequently asked questions

Why does almost every cell on Saturday's Hard Pips show a number?

Kurchan gave the Hard board 32 regions for 32 cells. Thirty-one are single cells that must add up to a set value, which fixes that cell, and R4C1 has no condition, according to the puzzle data. The challenge is deciding which neighbors share a domino.

Who made Saturday's Pips puzzles?

Ian Livengood made the Easy and Medium boards and Rodolfo Kurchan made the Hard board, according to the puzzle data.
