Outback Steakhouse Closing Locations 2026: Named Closures, Counts and Out West Bankruptcy

Bloomin’ Brands, the parent of Outback Steakhouse, has not published a list of the restaurants it has closed, so no complete list exists. Its filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) count 659 U.S. Outback restaurants on June 28, 2026, down from 666 on Dec. 28, 2025. On Nov. 2, Out West Restaurant Group, an independent Outback franchisee, filed for Chapter 11 with 61 restaurants left after closing 13 this year. This page lists the closures that a named newsroom or the company has reported, the official counts, and the dates still ahead.

Outback Steakhouse locations reported closed in 2026

Five closures have a named source and enough detail to list. Only the Washington, Pa. closing is backed by a company statement; each of the others rests on one newsroom, and the table says which.

The Baltimore restaurant has been in the Can Company complex for more than 20 years, according to the Banner. Its report says a Bloomin’ Brands spokesperson could not immediately be reached on the closing or on whether the restaurant would relocate. We found no report confirming that it closed on Oct. 11.

These five are a sample and not the total. The company’s own counts below show nine U.S. Outback closures in the first half of 2026 alone, and Out West closed 10 more before it filed.

Outback closures by quarter: what Bloomin’ Brands reports

The releases and filings we read do not name closed restaurants. They do count them, in a table of U.S. Outback restaurants by quarter. The figures below come from its earnings releases and its 2025 annual report.

Openings minus closings gives a net loss of 4 restaurants in the first quarter of 2026 and 3 in the second, which matches the change in the totals (666 to 662 to 659). The company’s annual report shows 24 U.S. Outback closures in all of 2025. Its Feb. 25, 2026 release also refers to “the closure of 21 U.S. restaurants and the decision not to renew the leases of 22 restaurants,” a figure for the company’s U.S. restaurants overall, not Outback alone. The Q2 release announced no planned closures.

A third-quarter table is due with the Nov. 6 release. It will cover July through Sept. 27, so it will include the August closings in Staten Island and Evansville.

Out West Restaurant Group: 13 closures and 61 restaurants left

Out West Restaurant Group is the trade name of Cerca Trova Restaurant Group Holdings, Inc., an independent franchisee based in San Diego. Bloomin’ Brands’ Nov. 2 Form 8-K says the company and its subsidiaries filed voluntary Chapter 11 petitions that day in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, and that Out West is “operating 61 Outback Steakhouse restaurants in the western United States.” The court’s claims agent, Stretto, lists the case as 26-11749 (CTG) and shows hearings on Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. ET on the sale bidding procedures, a lease rejection motion and final first-day requests.

Restaurant Business reported on Nov. 2 that Out West “has also closed restaurants, including three earlier this year and 10 leading up to the bankruptcy filing.” SanDiegoVille, also on Nov. 2, put the total at 13 closed earlier in 2026. Bloomin’ Brands’ own filings give the same total by arithmetic:

From 74 to 61 is 13 fewer. The three closures through June 28 fit the quarterly counts: Bloomin’ Brands’ franchised Outback total fell from 118 to 115 in the first half while it reported three franchised closures and no franchised openings, and Out West fell from 74 to 71. The 71 restaurants were about 62% of the 115 franchised Outback restaurants Bloomin’ Brands counted on June 28, though the two dates are not identical.

We are not listing the 10 closed restaurants by city. One national outlet, Fast Company, has published a location list. Its site refuses automated readers, so we could not read it, and we found no second newsroom, local report or court document that names the restaurants. A name goes on this page when a second source confirms it. Out West’s restaurants are in California, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico, according to Newsweek, citing court records, and SanDiegoVille, so a restaurant in one of those states may be an Out West unit.

What the sale means for open restaurants

Bloomin’ Brands signed a purchase agreement on Nov. 1 to buy substantially all of Out West’s assets. The price is $26.3 million, reduced by amounts owed under the debtor-in-possession loan Bloomin’ Brands is providing, and it can rise dollar for dollar if specified vendor liabilities fall below $6.1 million. Bloomin’ Brands also agreed to lend up to $5.5 million, interest free. The deal needs court approval and can be topped by a higher offer. The 8-K says the filing “has no immediate impact on any Out West or Company-owned Outback Steakhouse guests,” and that Out West asked the court to let it keep operating in the ordinary course of business.

SanDiegoVille, citing the declaration of Out West’s chief executive officer, reported that all 61 remaining restaurants are expected to keep operating during the case. It named six San Diego County restaurants among them: Clairemont, Mission Valley, Poway, National City, El Cajon and San Marcos.

Is Outback Steakhouse closing nationwide?

No. The bankruptcy belongs to a franchisee, and Bloomin’ Brands is bidding to buy its restaurants. The company still counted 659 U.S. Outback restaurants on June 28, 2026. Its closures are real but gradual: nine in the first half of 2026 after 24 in 2025. What happens to gift cards at Out West restaurants?

The Form 8-K lists “unredeemed gift cards and specified vendor liabilities” among the liabilities Bloomin’ Brands would assume in the purchase. That is a term of a proposed deal, and the court has not approved it. We found no statement from Outback or Out West about gift cards at the closed restaurants. Use a card at an open restaurant soon and ask the restaurant or Outback guest services before you plan around one.

Last year’s wave: 11 Outback locations named in October 2025

A year ago, newsrooms named a set of Outback closures that are not part of the 2026 list above. The Independent reported on Oct. 30, 2025 that Bloomin’ Brands had confirmed to USA Today on Oct. 29 that it closed restaurants as part of its turnaround plan. A spokesperson said, “These are business decisions that are part of our ongoing turnaround plan.” The Independent named 11 Outback locations:

Greater Long Island separately reported that the Merrick restaurant served its final meals on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025. The Independent said staff at closed restaurants were offered jobs at nearby locations where possible. These 2025 closures are not part of the Out West case.

The lease rejection motion on the Nov. 23 docket is the filing to watch for restaurant addresses. We could not open the docket’s documents. Pencil the dates onto a November 2026 calendar and a December 2026 calendar, or print the one-page sheet below.

How to check whether your Outback has closed

1. Call the restaurant and ask whether it is open and whether it is changing hands. A page that is still online is not proof that a restaurant is open.
2. Search the town’s name with “Outback” in local news. Most closures in the table above surfaced first in local papers or stations.
3. If you hold a gift card or a reward, ask Outback guest services about the location you use.
4. Read the Nov. 6 results table when it comes out. It shows how many U.S. Outback restaurants closed from July through Sept. 27, though not which ones.

Bloomin’ Brands’ other chains are outside this case: the Out West filing covers Outback restaurants only. The June 28 release counted 203 Carrabba’s Italian Grill, 157 Bonefish Grill and 64 Fleming’s restaurants.

Named closures come from the newsrooms linked in each row. We left out any closure that only an aggregator site or a blocked page reported, including the names of the 10 Out West restaurants. Bloomin’ Brands’ investor site and Business Wire refused automated access, so we did not use them directly; the results notice is read from a copy on Finviz.
