Social Security October 2026 Payment Schedule: Who Gets Paid Today, Oct. 21, and When the Next Payments Arrive

Today, Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, is payday for Social Security beneficiaries born on the 11th through the 20th of the month. The Social Security Administration (SSA) pays retirement, survivor and disability benefits on one of three Wednesdays, depending on your birthday, and Oct. 21 is the third Wednesday of October. One more round goes out next week, on Oct. 28. November brings two date changes: a Veterans Day shift and an early Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment. Every date below is from SSA’s published 2026 schedule.

Who gets paid today

If your birthday is on the 11th through the 20th, your October payment is dated today. That applies to retirement, survivor and disability benefits for people who started receiving Social Security after April 1997 and do not also get SSI.

The October payment is your benefit for September: Social Security pays each month’s benefit in the following month.

November 2026 payment schedule

There is no SSI payment dated in November: the November payment goes out Oct. 30, and December’s comes on Tuesday, Dec. 1. Nov. 3 is also Election Day; it is not a federal holiday, so that payment keeps its date. See whether Election Day is a holiday for what else is open.

December and the 3.6% raise

December’s Wednesdays are Dec. 9, 16 and 23, and the early-filer payment is Thursday, Dec. 3. These December payments are November benefits, so they still use the 2026 amounts. The 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment that SSA announced on Oct. 14 starts with the payments made in January 2027. SSI recipients get the higher amount sooner: January’s SSI payment is dated Thursday, Dec. 31, 2026, because Jan. 1 is New Year’s Day. The new amounts and January dates are in Social Security COLA 2027 is 3.6%.

How your payment date is set

• Birthday on the 1st to the 10th: second Wednesday of the month.
• Birthday on the 11th to the 20th: third Wednesday.
• Birthday on the 21st to the 31st: fourth Wednesday.
• Benefits started before May 1997, or you get both Social Security and SSI: Social Security on the 3rd of the month, SSI on the 1st.
• Weekends and federal holidays: the payment moves to the business day before.

The birthday that counts is that of the worker whose record the benefit is based on: if you are paid as a spouse, for example, your date follows your spouse’s birthday, and everyone paid on one record shares the same day.
