The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) disability compensation payment normally due Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026 is scheduled to arrive today, Friday, Oct. 30, 2026, because federal law moves it to the Friday before a weekend first-of-month. The rule is 38 U.S.C. 5120(e), published by the Legal Information Institute at Cornell Law School. Banks post deposits at different times, so check your own account.

VA pays monthly compensation on the first of the month. Section 5120(e) says that when the first day of a month falls on a Saturday, Sunday or legal public holiday, the Secretary shall, “to the maximum extent practicable,” arrange payment on “the Friday immediately preceding such Saturday or Sunday,” or, for a holiday, the weekday before it. The law adds that this holds “notwithstanding that such delivery or transmission of such payments is made in the same calendar month for which such payments are issued.”

What are the VA disability payment dates from November 2026 to December 2027?

Why do some months have two payments and others none?

When a payment moves into the previous month, that month holds two deposits and the next month holds none. Nothing is added or lost. It is a timing shift, not an extra payment.

The October 2026 date of Thursday, Oct. 1 follows the same first-of-the-month rule and is not on a weekend. If you budget by calendar month, expect the two-payment months to look larger and the empty months to look bare. Will the 2027 cost-of-living adjustment change the amount?

VA’s rate page says, “We’re required by law to match the percentage of cost-of-living adjustments made to Social Security benefits.” The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced a 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for 2027 on Oct. 14, 2026. VA’s 2027 rate table is not posted on va.gov as of Oct. 30, 2026, so we give no 2027 amounts.

Last year’s pattern, labeled as last year’s: the 2026 rates on va.gov are marked “Effective December 1, 2025,” and the page was last updated Dec. 2, 2025. How do I check a VA payment?

You can check payments online at VA’s payment history page. For a new award, VA says that if your decision notice shows at least a 10% disability rating, you will get your first payment within 15 days.

Why did my VA payment come early?

38 U.S.C. 5120(e) tells the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to pay on the preceding Friday when the 1st of a month is a Saturday or Sunday, and on the preceding weekday when it is a legal public holiday.

Is the Oct. 30 payment an extra payment?

No. It is November's payment, delivered early. Your total for the year does not change; two payments are dated in October and none in November.

When is the VA disability payment in January 2027?

Jan. 1, 2027 is New Year's Day, a federal holiday, so the payment is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 31, 2026.
