AAA Tow to Go 2026: Free Ride Home From Thanksgiving Eve to Jan. 4, Phone and States

The American Automobile Association (AAA) Tow to Go program has two holiday windows in 2026: 6 p.m. local time Wednesday, Nov. 25 to 6 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, and 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 24 to 6 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2027, according to The Auto Club Group’s Tow To Go page. The ride is free to members and non-members, and the number is (855) 286-9246. The service covers the states and cities listed below, which are The Auto Club Group’s territory, and the page warns it may not be available in rural areas or during severe weather. AAA has not yet issued its 2026 holiday announcement; last year’s came on Dec. 19.

AAA Tow to Go 2026 windows and lengths

The page lists Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 26, and a second row for Christmas Day, Friday, Dec. 25, and New Year’s Day, Friday, Jan. 1, 2027. The times are marked “(local time)” and the page names no time zone. The lengths below are our own arithmetic from those start and end times.

Last year’s window comes from AAA’s Dec. 19, 2025 release, which said Tow to Go would run from 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2025 through 6 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, 2026. The 2026-27 window is two days longer and reaches through the weekend after New Year’s Day. It covers Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, Thursday, Dec. 31, and New Year’s Day. The page also shows five earlier 2026 activations that began at 6 p.m.: Feb. 27, March 16, May 22, July 3 and Sept. 4. The program also runs on other holiday weekends.

The page is The Auto Club Group’s. It does not say whether other AAA clubs run the same program, so drivers outside these areas should ask their own club. The page also warns that Tow to Go may not be available in rural areas or during severe weather, and that some rural areas may have fewer drivers.

What Tow to Go does and does not do

• It is free. The page calls it a free confidential ride available to AAA members and non-members.
• It takes the driver and the vehicle. The AAA tow truck transports the vehicle and driver home or somewhere safe within 10 miles.
• It cannot be booked. The page says appointments cannot be scheduled in advance.
• It is a safety net. The page says it is designed for people who did not plan ahead, so the ride-share or designated driver plan still comes first.
• It may not reach everywhere. Rural areas and severe weather can limit it.

The page says that since 1998 the program has removed nearly 30,000 impaired drivers from the road.
