Lyft’s VOTE26 code takes 50% off one eligible ride, up to $10, on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026. Separately, transit agencies in Los Angeles, Cincinnati, Hampton Roads and the Dallas area have announced fare-free service for that day, each with its own conditions, and Fort Worth’s Trinity Metro is free during early voting. As of Oct. 21, we found no 2026 Election Day ride-discount announcement in Uber’s official newsroom; its 2024 offer is not a current promotion. This guide lists the programs we verified in official sources and is not a complete nationwide list.

Lyft also works with nonprofit partners that give out their own ride codes: the League of Women Voters, VoteRiders, Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote), the National Council on Aging, the National Down Syndrome Society, the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, the Students Learn Students Vote Coalition and When We All Vote. Lyft says the APIAVote and National Council on Aging programs reach early voting as well; those codes follow each partner’s own terms, while VOTE26 itself is good only on Nov. 3. The offer is not tied to voting or to how you vote, Lyft’s terms say.

Free transit on Nov. 3: announcements we verified

These are the Election Day programs we confirmed on each agency’s own website as of Oct. 21. Other agencies may add free service; this is not a complete list.

AgencyWhat is free on Tuesday, Nov. 3
LA Metro (Los Angeles County)Buses and trains; Metro Micro rides, booked in the Micro app with no code needed; and a free 30-minute Metro Bike Share ride: choose “1-Ride” and enter code 110326 (a credit or debit card is required, and longer rides are charged)
Cincinnati Metro (Ohio)Fixed-route buses, Access paratransit for eligible riders and MetroNow! on-demand rides
Hampton Roads Transit (HRT), VirginiaBuses, light rail, ferry, paratransit and OnDemand rides
Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART)Buses, trains, GoLink, the Dallas Streetcar, paratransit, the Silver Line and the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) between Union Station and CentrePort station, for riders who show a valid voter registration card. GoLink riders use code VOTENOV3 in the GoPass app for a free Adult Local Day Pass

LA Metro posted its 2026 details on Oct. 13, and its stations host ballot drop boxes for Los Angeles County voters; drop-off deadlines elsewhere are set by your own county. The free rides follow a 2019 decision by LA Metro’s board to offer them on every federal and statewide election day. DART’s voter registration card rule is a condition of the free fare, separate from what Texas requires to vote. Look at your agency’s alerts page before you rely on a free ride.

Free rides during early voting

Trinity Metro in Fort Worth and Tarrant County, Texas, is free during early voting, Oct. 19-30, 2026, but not on Election Day itself. It covers Trinity Metro buses, TEXRail, the TRE within Tarrant County between Fort Worth T&P Station and CentrePort station, On-Demand rideshare and paratransit, and Trinity Metro Bikes for rides up to 30 minutes, with a credit card on file. Enter code VOTE26 in the GoPass app for a free Local Day Pass, or ask for a paper day pass at the customer service kiosk at Fort Worth Central Station; one pass per person, and regular hours and service areas apply.

Uber

As of Oct. 21, 2026, we found no Election Day ride-discount announcement for 2026 in Uber’s official newsroom; its most recent rides post is dated Oct. 14. For the 2024 election, Uber’s Go Vote! tile in the app took 50% off, up to $10, one ride to a polling place on Election Day, Nov. 5, 2024, excluding Reserve rides, the company said at the time. That offer does not mean a 2026 offer exists; check the app and Uber’s newsroom again closer to Nov. 3. We will add any 2026 offer once Uber posts it.

Before you ride

  • Confirm where you vote. Your polling place is set by your home address and can change from one election to the next, USAGov says, so check your state or local election office’s official lookup before the trip. Our sample ballot by ZIP code guide links every state’s lookup.
  • Check the hours. Polls close as early as 6 p.m. local time in some states; see what time polls close. The Lyft code stops at 10 p.m.
  • Know your state’s ID rules. A voter registration card is generally not required to vote, USAGov notes, though states set their own ID rules. In Dallas the card is what gets you the free DART fare.
  • Early voting dates differ by state. Texas runs Oct. 19-30, and Michigan and New York run Oct. 24 to Nov. 1; check your own state’s election office for its dates. See early voting in Michigan and New York.

Whether you get time off to vote, and what is open on Nov. 3, is in is Election Day a holiday. Plan the day on our November 2026 printable calendar or a weekly planner.

Frequently asked questions

Is Uber giving free rides to vote in 2026?

As of Oct. 21, 2026, we found no announcement of a 2026 Election Day ride discount in Uber's official newsroom. In 2024 its Go Vote! tile in the app offered 50% off, up to $10, one ride to a polling place, but that offer does not carry over. Check the app and Uber's newsroom closer to Nov. 3.

What is the Lyft promo code for Election Day 2026?

VOTE26. Add it to the Lyft app before Tuesday, Nov. 3, for 50% off, up to $10, one eligible ride to your polling place between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. local time. Rides to a registered ballot drop box count in vote-by-mail states and where your state allows drop-off.

Does the Lyft code work on early voting days?

No. Lyft's terms say VOTE26 is valid on Nov. 3, 2026, only. Lyft says some partner organizations hand out their own ride codes that also cover early voting; check with the organization. In Fort Worth, Trinity Metro is free during early voting, Oct. 19-30.

Which buses are free on Election Day 2026?

Among the agencies whose announcements we verified: LA Metro, Cincinnati Metro, Hampton Roads Transit in Virginia and DART in Dallas. This is not a complete list; check your own transit agency's site, since agencies often announce in the last week before the election.

Is it legal to offer free rides to the polls?

Lyft's terms say the offer is not meant to induce voting or a vote for or against any candidate or measure, and it does not depend on whether you vote. Nonpartisan ride programs are structured that way.
