Cherokee County School Calendar 2026-27: Thanksgiving Break Nov. 23-27, Last Day May 25

Cherokee County School District (CCSD) in Canton, Georgia, closes schools and the district Nov. 23-27, 2026 for Thanksgiving week, then Dec. 21 to Jan. 1 for winter break and April 5-9, 2027 for spring break, according to its “2026-27 School Year Calendar - text” page. The last day of school is May 25, 2027. This is the Georgia district, not a Cherokee County in North Carolina or South Carolina.

The district’s board changed the 2026-27 calendar on April 23, 2026, and the print PDF carries that footnote, so the dates here are the ones the district posted on Nov. 5, 2026. This story adds a quick guide to the district’s “Holiday Break” labels, a table of every day off, weekdays off by month, school days between breaks, and a side-by-side with Cobb and Fulton counties. All counts are our arithmetic from the district’s dates.

Cherokee County School District breaks at a glance

The district calls every break “Holiday Break.” Our labels in the first column say which week is the usual fall, Thanksgiving, winter, February and spring break; the district does not use those names.

Our label	District’s dates and wording	Weekdays off	Students return (our reading)
Fall break	Sept. 21-25, 2026, “Holiday Break - Schools Closed” (past)	5	Mon., Sept. 28, 2026
Thanksgiving break	Nov. 23-27, 2026, “Holiday Break- Schools & District Closed”	5	Mon., Nov. 30, 2026
Winter break	Dec. 21, 2026 to Jan. 1, 2027, “Holiday Break - Schools & District Closed”	10	Tue., Jan. 5, 2027 (printed)
February break	Feb. 15-19, 2027, “Holiday Break - Schools Closed”	5	Mon., Feb. 22, 2027
Spring break	April 5-9, 2027, “Holiday Break - Schools & District Closed”	5	Mon., April 12, 2027

That is six full Monday-to-Friday weeks off, because winter break covers two. The page prints only one return day, Jan. 5, as “First Day, Second Semester.” The others are the next weekday the calendar does not list as off. Jan. 4 is a student holiday and teacher planning day, so students are out 11 weekdays in a row from Dec. 21. See the December 2026 printable calendar and the November 2026 printable calendar for the weeks.

The district names neither Labor Day nor Martin Luther King Jr. Day, only “School & District Holiday” on Sept. 7 and Jan. 18.

How many school days fall between Cherokee County breaks?

These are weekdays with school or remote learning between the district’s days off, counting early-release days as school days.

Stretch	Dates	Weekdays of school
Start to fall break	Aug. 3 to Sept. 18, 2026	34
Fall break to Thanksgiving	Sept. 28 to Nov. 20, 2026	39
Thanksgiving to winter break	Nov. 30 to Dec. 18, 2026	15
Winter break to February break	Jan. 5 to Feb. 12, 2027	28
February break to spring break	Feb. 22 to April 2, 2027	30
Spring break to last day	April 12 to May 25, 2027	32
Total 178

The stretch from Sept. 28 to Nov. 20 is the longest at 39 weekdays, about eight weeks with Oct. 12 as the only day off. The page does not give an official instructional-day count, so we do not compare the 178 to one.

How does Cherokee County compare with Cobb and Fulton?

All three districts share the Nov. 23-27 and April 5-9 weeks, per each district’s own calendar. Their other dates differ. Our Cobb County calendar story, Fulton County calendar story and Gwinnett County calendar story have each in more detail.

	Cherokee	Cobb	Fulton
First day	Aug. 3	Aug. 3	Aug. 3
Fall break	Sept. 21-25	Sept. 21-25	Sept. 21-23, plus professional development Sept. 24-25
Thanksgiving	Nov. 23-27	Nov. 23-27	Nov. 23-27
Winter	Dec. 21-Jan. 1	Dec. 21-31	Dec. 21-Jan. 1
February	Feb. 15-19	Feb. 15-19	Feb. 15-17, plus professional development Feb. 18-19
Spring	April 5-9	April 5-9, “Spring Holidays”	April 5-9
Last day (2027)	May 25	May 19	May 27

Cherokee’s last day is six days after Cobb’s and two days before Fulton’s, by the dates above. Cobb lists Election Day, Nov. 3, as a student holiday, where Cherokee uses a remote learning day. The spring break 2027 roundup compares other districts. The April 2027 printable calendar shows the Cherokee week.

What happens to the Cherokee County calendar when the weather turns?

The district’s inclement weather page says Digital Learning Days are used for “intermittent school closures.” It lists no makeup days, so none are in the printable. The calendar itself already uses two remote learning days, Nov. 3 and March 9.

Did the Cherokee County school board change the 2026-27 calendar?

Yes. In a post dated April 24, 2026, the district said the board “unanimously approved changes to the school calendars for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years” at its Thursday, April 23, 2026 meeting. The print PDF is footnoted “Amended at the April 23, 2026 Board Meeting.” Our sources do not say which dates changed. The board first approved the calendars on a post dated July 19, 2024: “The school board approved calendars for the 2025-26, 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years.”

What are Cherokee County’s 2027-28 dates?

As listed on the district’s 2027-28 page, the first day is Aug. 2, 2027 and the last day, “Last Day of School/End of Semester,” is May 24, 2028. That page lists holiday breaks Nov. 22-26, Feb. 21-25 (“Holiday Break - Schools Closed”) and April 3-7. Because the board changed both years in April 2026, check the district page before booking travel that far out.

Print the Cherokee County school-year calendar

The printable puts the first and last day, the holiday breaks, the school holidays, and the remote learning days on a 10-month sheet, with space for conferences (the early-release conference days are in the table above). It uses only the district’s dates. Our printable school-year calendar has a blank layout.
