The National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Prediction Center (WPC) expects heavy rain, isolated severe weather and gusty winds to spread across the Mississippi Valley on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, and Miami-Dade County moved 19 precincts to 12 temporary polling places. A forecast does not close a polling place: as of 8:20 a.m. Eastern Time (ET), no election office had announced a weather closure, delay or extended hours that we found. For poll hours by state, see what time polls close on Election Day 2026.

Where is the storm risk on Election Day 2026?

The WPC’s Short Range Forecast Discussion, issued at 2:52 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on Nov. 3, says a low pressure area over the central U.S. keeps moving east. Ahead of its trailing cold front, showers and thunderstorms capable of scattered heavy rain and some severe weather will spread into the Middle and Lower Mississippi Valley. Steady rain falls over the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest today. By Thursday, Nov. 5, the front reaches the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic and ends the recent dry stretch there, the WPC says.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center (SPC) Day 1 Convective Outlook, issued at 7:51 a.m. ET, rates the risk no higher than Marginal, level 1 of 5. It says thunderstorms with isolated severe wind gusts and perhaps a brief tornado or two are possible from the Sabine and Lower Mississippi Valleys north into the Mid Mississippi Valley. The outlook text puts the greatest potential from eastern Arkansas into northern Louisiana. It is valid until 7 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Nov. 4.

In the West, the WPC expects modest rain in north-central California today. It says unseasonably mild weather will prevail for much of the East this week.

What is the forecast in 15 big cities?

Which NWS alerts affect South Florida polls until 7 p.m.?

The WPC says persistent onshore flow keeps the threat of heavy rain over southeast Florida for at least another day. It adds that more rain could worsen problems from the flooding that happened on Monday, Nov. 2, and that Flood Watches remain in effect.

NWS alerts, read at 8:20 a.m. ET on Nov. 3, include:

Are other polling places changing?

There is no nationwide list of polling place changes, so check your own county. Two other official notices we found:

  • Cumberland County Clerk, New Jersey: “Vineland Ward 1, Districts 1 and 2 has moved to Marie D. Durand School, 371 W. Forest Grove Road, Vineland, NJ 08361.” The notice shows no posting date.
  • Johnson County, Iowa: lists polling places that moved since 2024, for example Madison at GreenState Credit Union, 2355 Landon Rd. The county says polls are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

How do I check my polling place before I go?

Start with your state or county election office. The U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) has no polling place finder, but its Voters page links to every state’s election office. Then check your NWS forecast and alerts at weather.gov. If you need a ride, see free rides to the polls in 2026, and for what is open that day, is Election Day a holiday in 2026. Frequently asked questions

Will bad weather close polling places on Election Day?

A forecast does not close polls. As of 8:20 a.m. ET on Nov. 3, 2026, no election office had announced a weather-related closure, delay or extended hours that we found. If your area gets severe weather, check your county or state election office for notices.

Are polling places changing nationwide this year?

There is no nationwide list of polling place changes. Changes are posted by county and state election offices, such as Miami-Dade County, Cumberland County in New Jersey and Johnson County in Iowa. Check your own county.

Where do I find my polling place?

Use your state or county election office. The U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) has no polling place finder of its own, but its Voters page links to each state's election office. Miami-Dade voters can use the county's Voter Information Lookup.

What if I go to the wrong polling place?

Ask a poll worker where you are assigned to vote. Rules on provisional ballots vary by state, so ask the poll worker what applies where you live.
