National Family Literacy Day 2026 Is Sunday, Nov. 1: Month Dates and a 7-Day Reading Plan

National Family Literacy Day is Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026, a day the National Center for Families Learning (NCFL) says it established “more than 30 years ago, in collaboration with Congress.” NCFL also recognizes all of November as National Family Literacy Month. This story lists the November dates, including the group’s 2026 conference, and gives a free 7-day family reading plan for Nov. 1 to Nov. 7.

What is National Family Literacy Day?

NCFL’s blog post, “Celebrate National Family Literacy Month with NCFL this November!”, is the source for the day. It names no founding year and no 2026 theme, so we give neither. The day is an awareness day. It is not in the federal holiday list kept by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), so there is no day off.

Weekdays are our computation. NCFL says the 2026 Families Learning Conference “takes place November 8-11, 2026,” at the Marriott Rivercenter on the River Walk in San Antonio. The conference overlaps Veterans Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11; our Veterans Day 2026 story has that date. We did not check registration or agenda details, so confirm them with NCFL.

A 7-day family reading plan for Nov. 1-7

The plan below is our suggestion, not an NCFL program. NCFL’s post does not prescribe activities, and nothing here is a claim about results. Each day has one small step.
