Pittsburgh Public Schools Calendar 2026-27: Winter Break, Spring Break and Last Day

Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) gives students no school from Thursday, Dec. 24, 2026 through Friday, Jan. 1, 2027, takes spring break Monday, March 22 through Friday, March 26, 2027, and ends the year for all students on Tuesday, June 8, 2027, according to the district’s 2026-2027 key dates. Students start Monday, Aug. 24, 2026, except kindergarten, which starts Thursday, Aug. 27. The next day off is Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026.

The district’s key dates page and its “2026-2027 District Calendar” PDF, which runs “Commencing August 24, 2026 and concluding June 8, 2027,” both say dates may be subject to change. A June 8 finish is later than most districts, which end in late May.

Pittsburgh Public Schools break dates for 2026-27

The district sorts days off into three groups. The table below combines them into the breaks a family plans around. The weekdays off are our count from the district’s lists.

Break	No school	Classes resume	Weekdays off
Thanksgiving	Thu., Nov. 26 to Fri., Nov. 27, 2026	Mon., Nov. 30, 2026	2
Winter break	Thu., Dec. 24, 2026 to Fri., Jan. 1, 2027	Mon., Jan. 4, 2027	7
Spring break	Mon., March 22 to Fri., March 26, 2027	Mon., March 29, 2027	5

Dec. 24-25 and 31 and Jan. 1 are listed as all-employee holidays, and Dec. 28-30 as “School Only Vacation Days,” when staff work. The PDF numbers Monday, Jan. 4 as a school day, so students return that day. Spring break works the same way: March 22-25 are school-only vacation days and March 26 is an all-employee holiday. The district does not name March 26 Good Friday. Thanksgiving is only Thursday and Friday; Monday through Wednesday are school days, and Friday, Nov. 20 is a half day. For other districts, see our winter break roundup and the spring break 2027 list.

Presidents’ Day, Monday, Feb. 15, 2027, is not a day off on the calendar, and the PDF numbers it as a school day. The district also lists Juneteenth as an all-employee holiday, observed after the last day of school. The March 10 Eid al-Fitr day is one to mark early on the printable school-year calendar page, and you can place the next dates on the November 2026 calendar.

Which Pittsburgh school days are half days?

The key dates page says “Eight (8) half-days/early dismissals are set aside for school and district-level professional development time.” The page lists seven of them under PD days; the PDF marks Feb. 26 as “Half Day PD,” which makes the eight.

Date	Weekday
Sept. 18, 2026	Friday
Oct. 9, 2026	Friday
Oct. 23, 2026	Friday
Nov. 20, 2026	Friday
Dec. 18, 2026	Friday
Feb. 12, 2027	Friday
Feb. 26, 2027	Friday
March 12, 2027	Friday

Two PD days are full days without school: Nov. 3, 2026 (the PDF reads “Election Day No School PD”) and Jan. 20, 2027 (“No School PD”). Jan. 19 is a clerical day with no school. Parent-teacher conferences were set for Oct. 12 for grades 6-12 and Oct. 16 for early childhood through grade 8 groups, both past.

How is the Pittsburgh calendar made?

A central office committee drafts it under the Pennsylvania School Code (1949 Act 14, Article XV), Board of Education Policy 902 and Article 53 of the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers (PFT) contract, the district says. The pages do not give a board approval date, a school-day count or any snow make-up days, so the printable lists make-up days as unconfirmed.

The district’s Thursday, June 10, 2027 last day for teachers falls two days after students finish. The printable “Pittsburgh Public Schools Calendar 2026-27” marks every date above, marks the first day, the half days, most no-school days, the breaks and the last day in one sheet to keep on the fridge. It leaves out Jan. 18 and Jan. 19, which the sources print without a date it can quote.
