Today’s Quordle from Merriam-Webster is puzzle #1738, for Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026. Each word starts with a different letter, and all four are common English words. The clues below are grouped by each word’s first letter, because the published solutions we checked agree on the words but not all list them without saying which board each one is on. How Quordle works

You have nine guesses to solve four five-letter words. Every guess is entered on all four boards at once, and the tiles color like Wordle’s: green for the right letter in the right spot, yellow for a letter in the wrong spot, gray for a letter not in that word.

Clues for each word

The word that starts with D

• Letters: starts with D, ends with T, and has an E and an A inside.
• Meaning: the past tense of “deal”, as in cards or a blow.

The word that starts with F

• Letters: starts with F, ends with E, and has an L and a U inside.
• Meaning: a narrow channel carrying water, or a ravine with a stream.

The word that starts with S

• Letters: starts with S, ends with K, and has two E’s side by side.
• Meaning: smooth and glossy, as a polished car or a well-groomed cat.

The word that starts with R

• Letters: starts with R, ends with C, and has an E and an I inside.
• Meaning: something old kept from the past, such as an antique.

A starter strategy for today

A first guess such as Stale, with S, T, A, L and E, puts at least one letter into every board. A second guess such as Round, which adds R, O, U, N and D, covers most of the remaining common letters. Solve the board with the most green first, and do not spend a guess on a board that is already solved.
