Today’s Quordle from Merriam-Webster is puzzle #1739, for Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026. Each word starts with a different letter, and all four are common English words. The clues below are grouped by each word’s first letter, because the published solutions we checked agree on the words but not all list them without saying which board each one is on. How Quordle works

You have nine guesses to solve four five-letter words. Every guess is entered on all four boards at once, and the tiles color like Wordle’s: green for the right letter in the right spot, yellow for a letter in the wrong spot, gray for a letter not in that word.

Clues for each word

The word that starts with P

• Letters: starts with P, ends with E, and has an R, a U and a D inside.
• Meaning: a person who is easily shocked by talk of sex.

The word that starts with M

• Letters: starts with M, ends with S, and has an I, an N and a U inside.
• Meaning: the subtraction sign, or another way to say “less”.

The word that starts with S

• Letters: starts with S, ends with Y, and has an A, a V and an O inside.
• Meaning: a cabbage with crinkly leaves. The word is also a London hotel and a former Italian royal house.

The word that starts with U

• Letters: starts with U, ends with R, and has an S, an H and an E inside.
• Meaning: a person who shows people to their seats.

A starter strategy for today

A first guess such as Stale, with S, T, A, L and E, puts at least one letter into every board. A second guess such as Round, which adds R, O, U, N and D, covers most of the remaining common letters. Solve the board with the most green first, and do not spend a guess on a board that is already solved.
