Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on Monday, Feb. 8, 2027 and to last 29 days, ending with Eid al-Fitr on Tuesday, March 9. The first taraweeh prayer is on the evening of Sunday, Feb. 7. Those dates come from the Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA) calculated calendar and match Saudi Arabia’s Umm al-Qura calendar. Mosques that wait for a local moon sighting announce their own dates and may celebrate Eid on March 10.

Ramadan 1448 belongs to the year 1448 anno Hegirae (AH), counted from the Prophet Muhammad’s migration to Medina. Because the Islamic calendar follows the moon, Ramadan moves about 11 days earlier each year. In 2026 it began on Feb. 18. In 2027 it begins ten days sooner.

Why Feb. 8 and not Feb. 7

The new moon that ends Sha’ban arrives on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2027, the same day as an annular solar eclipse visible from South America and West Africa. A crescent only a few hours old cannot be seen that evening. That is why calculated calendars put 1 Ramadan on Monday, Feb. 8, after Sha’ban completes 30 days.

At least one calendar site lists Feb. 7 as the start. Treat that as a misreading of the night: the first taraweeh is on Feb. 7, but the first fast is Feb. 8.

Suhoor and iftar times for Ramadan 2027

Suhoor ends at Fajr, the dawn prayer, and iftar is at Maghrib, just after sunset. The times below use the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) method, a common default in U.S. prayer apps, which places Fajr and Isha at 15 degrees below the horizon.

CityFirst fast, Feb. 8: suhoor endsIftarLength
New York5:42 a.m. EST5:22 p.m.11 h 40 min
Chicago5:37 a.m. CST5:15 p.m.11 h 38 min
Houston6:00 a.m. CST6:05 p.m.12 h 05 min
Los Angeles5:34 a.m. PST5:30 p.m.11 h 56 min
Dearborn, Mich.6:20 a.m. EST5:56 p.m.11 h 36 min

Days grow longer as the month goes on. In New York, suhoor ends 38 minutes earlier on the last fast (5:04 a.m. on March 8) and iftar comes 33 minutes later (5:55 p.m.), so the final fast is about 12 hours 51 minutes. Every day of Ramadan stays on standard time, since U.S. clocks do not spring forward until Sunday, March 14, 2027.

Many mosques set suhoor a few minutes before the calculated Fajr as a margin. Your local masjid’s timetable is the one to follow. The full New York timetable, with all six daily times for each of the 29 days, is in the downloads.

The last ten nights and Laylat al-Qadr 2027

The last ten nights of Ramadan begin at sunset on Saturday, Feb. 27. Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Decree, is sought in the odd nights among them. An Islamic night comes before its day, so each odd night starts on the evening of an even-numbered fasting day.

NightBegins at sunset on
21stSaturday, Feb. 27
23rdMonday, March 1
25thWednesday, March 3
27thFriday, March 5
29thSunday, March 7

Mosques usually hold their largest gathering of the month on the 27th night. Worshippers who make i’tikaf, a retreat in the mosque, begin it on the evening of Feb. 27.

Eid al-Fitr 2027

Eid al-Fitr marks 1 Shawwal 1448 and is expected on Tuesday, March 9, 2027. The Eid prayer is held in the morning, usually between 30 minutes and an hour after sunrise, and zakat al-fitr is due before it. Where Ramadan runs a full 30 days, Eid moves to Wednesday, March 10.

Each date is the Gregorian day; observances held at night begin the evening before. The Islamic calendar printable lists the first day of all 14 Hijri months that start between Dec. 10, 2026 and Dec. 29, 2027. For the whole Gregorian year on one sheet, see our 2027 printable yearly calendar.

How we checked these dates

We compared three calendars: the FCNA calculated calendar followed by mosques across North America, the Umm al-Qura calendar published in Saudi Arabia, and the AlAdhan calendar service. All three give 1 Ramadan 1448 as Feb. 8 and 1 Shawwal as March 9, 2027. Prayer times were calculated for each city with the ISNA method and rounded to the minute. Moon-sighting committees announce their decisions on the evening of the 29th day of the month before: around Feb. 6 for Ramadan and March 8 for Eid.

Frequently asked questions

When does Ramadan 2027 start?

Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin on Monday, Feb. 8, 2027. The first fast is that day, and the first taraweeh prayer is on the evening of Sunday, Feb. 7, because each Islamic day begins at sunset.

When is Eid al-Fitr 2027?

Tuesday, March 9, 2027, according to the Fiqh Council of North America's calculated calendar and Saudi Arabia's Umm al-Qura calendar. Communities that wait for a local moon sighting may celebrate on Wednesday, March 10.

How many days is Ramadan 2027?

29 days by the calculated calendars, from Feb. 8 through March 8, 2027. An Islamic month always has 29 or 30 days, so some communities may fast a 30th day on March 9.

When is Laylat al-Qadr 2027?

It is sought in the odd nights of the last ten. The 27th night, which many Muslims observe as Laylat al-Qadr, begins at sunset on Friday, March 5, 2027. The last ten nights start at sunset on Saturday, Feb. 27.

How long is the fast in Ramadan 2027?

In New York City, about 11 hours 40 minutes on the first day and 12 hours 51 minutes on the last, measured from Fajr to Maghrib. Ramadan falls in late winter in the Northern Hemisphere, so fasts are shorter than in recent summer Ramadans.

Does daylight saving time change the Ramadan 2027 timetable?

Not in the United States. Clocks spring forward on Sunday, March 14, 2027, after Ramadan ends, so the whole month is on standard time.

When will Ramadan start in 2028?

The Islamic year is about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year, so Ramadan 2028 is expected to begin around Jan. 28, 2028. Check a calculated calendar for the exact date closer to the time.
