In this article
2027 has 12 full moons, one in every month, starting with the Wolf Moon on Friday, Jan. 22 and ending with the Cold Moon on Monday, Dec. 13. There is no blue moon this time. The year also brings 13 new moons, the Harvest Moon on Wednesday, Sept. 15, and five eclipses. The longest of them, the total solar eclipse of Aug. 2, will not be visible from the United States. All times below are from the U.S. Naval Observatory (USNO), converted to U.S. time zones.

The Moon looks full for about a day on either side of these times, so the evening before or after is just as good for viewing. Two dates depend on where you are. The Strawberry Moon is on June 19 in Universal Time but still June 18 across the United States, and the Beaver Moon is Nov. 14 in Europe and Nov. 13 in the U.S.
The names are the traditional ones listed by the Old Farmer’s Almanac, which draws on Native American, Colonial American and European sources. Our full moon printable lists all 12 with times in all four mainland U.S. zones.
Harvest Moon and Hunter’s Moon 2027
The Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the September equinox. In 2027 the equinox is Thursday, Sept. 23 at 2:02 a.m. EDT, and the nearest full moon is eight days earlier, on Wednesday, Sept. 15. The next full moon, the Hunter’s Moon, is on Friday, Oct. 15.
Sept. 15 is also the Mid-Autumn Festival in the Chinese calendar and Chuseok in Korea, both of which fall on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month.
New moons 2027
| Month | New moon (Eastern Time) |
|---|---|
| January | Thursday, Jan. 7, 3:24 p.m. |
| February | Saturday, Feb. 6, 10:56 a.m. |
| March | Monday, March 8, 4:29 a.m. |
| April | Tuesday, April 6, 7:51 p.m. |
| May | Thursday, May 6, 6:58 a.m. |
| June | Friday, June 4, 3:40 p.m. |
| July | Saturday, July 3, 11:02 p.m. |
| August | Monday, Aug. 2, 6:05 a.m., and Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1:41 p.m. |
| September | Wednesday, Sept. 29, 10:36 p.m. |
| October | Friday, Oct. 29, 9:36 a.m. |
| November | Saturday, Nov. 27, 10:24 p.m. |
| December | Monday, Dec. 27, 3:12 p.m. |
New moon nights are the darkest of the month and the best for meteor showers and the Milky Way. The Feb. 6 new moon matters on three calendars at once: it sets up the Lunar New Year on Feb. 6, the crescent watch for Ramadan 2027, and an annular solar eclipse.
Eclipses in 2027
| Date | Eclipse | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Saturday, Feb. 6 | Annular solar | A “ring of fire” over southern South America, the South Atlantic and West Africa |
| Saturday, Feb. 20 | Penumbral lunar | Greatest at 6:13 p.m. EST, shortly after moonrise in the eastern U.S.; the shading is subtle |
| Sunday, July 18 | Penumbral lunar | So shallow (magnitude 0.0014) that it cannot be seen |
| Monday, Aug. 2 | Total solar | Totality up to 6 min 23 s near Luxor, Egypt; path crosses Spain, North Africa and the Middle East |
| Tuesday, Aug. 17 | Penumbral lunar | Greatest at 3:14 a.m. EDT, visible across the Americas as a faint shading |
These come from NASA’s eclipse list for 2027, which gives the Aug. 2 eclipse a maximum totality of 6 minutes 23 seconds, unusually long for a total eclipse. No total or partial lunar eclipse occurs in 2027, only the three penumbral ones.
The phases, briefly
The Moon takes about 29.5 days to go from new to new. NASA describes eight phases: new moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, last quarter and waning crescent. Only four of them, the new moon, the two quarters and the full moon, are instants that can be timed to the minute. Those are the times in our tables. In the Northern Hemisphere the lit side grows from the right and shrinks from the right; south of the equator the picture is flipped.
The one-page moon phase calendar draws the Moon for every day of 2027 as it looks at noon Eastern Time. The monthly version adds the percentage lit and fits on a fridge next to a January 2027 printable calendar. For the whole year in one place, there is also our 2027 printable yearly calendar.
2027 seasons
| Season begins | Date and time (Eastern) |
|---|---|
| Spring (March equinox) | Saturday, March 20, 4:25 p.m. EDT |
| Summer (June solstice) | Monday, June 21, 10:11 a.m. EDT |
| Fall (September equinox) | Thursday, Sept. 23, 2:02 a.m. EDT |
| Winter (December solstice) | Tuesday, Dec. 21, 9:42 p.m. EST |
Season times also come from the USNO. Daylight saving time in 2027 runs from Sunday, March 14 to Sunday, Nov. 7, which is why the times switch between EST and EDT. To plan Harvest Moon week, print the September page of the monthly moon calendar and pair it with a September printable calendar.
Frequently asked questions
When is the next full moon?
The next full moon is the Hunter's Moon at 12:12 a.m. EDT on Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, so it is full on the night of Oct. 25. Then come the Beaver Moon on Tuesday, Nov. 24 (9:53 a.m. EST) and the Cold Moon on Wednesday, Dec. 23 (8:28 p.m. EST). The first full moon of 2027 is the Wolf Moon on Friday, Jan. 22.
How many full moons are there in 2027?
Twelve, one in every month. Because no month has two full moons, there is no blue moon in 2027.
When is the Harvest Moon in 2027?
Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2027, at 7:03 p.m. EDT. It is the full moon closest to the September equinox, which falls on Thursday, Sept. 23.
Are there any lunar eclipses in 2027?
Three, all penumbral: Feb. 20, July 18 and Aug. 17. The Moon only passes through Earth's faint outer shadow, so the dimming is slight. The July 18 eclipse is too shallow to notice at all.
Can I see the Aug. 2, 2027 total solar eclipse from the United States?
No. The path of totality crosses southern Spain, North Africa and the Middle East. NASA lists the longest totality as 6 minutes 23 seconds, near Luxor, Egypt.
Why does the full moon fall on June 18 in the U.S. but June 19 elsewhere?
The full moon happens at one instant worldwide: 00:44 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) on June 19. That is still 8:44 p.m. on June 18 in New York and 5:44 p.m. in Los Angeles.
