The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is closed on 10 days in 2027, according to the holiday calendar NYSE Group published on Dec. 23, 2025. The list differs from the federal one in three ways: the market closes for Good Friday, stays open on Columbus Day and Veterans Day, and trades on Friday, Dec. 31, 2027, when most federal offices are closed.

Open on Dec. 31, 2027
New Year’s Day 2028 falls on Saturday, Jan. 1. Federal employees get the Friday before off, but NYSE Group says that because the holiday falls on a Saturday, “no New Year’s Day holiday” is observed for it. The last trading day of 2027 is therefore Friday, Dec. 31, a full session. Christmas works the other way: Dec. 25 is a Saturday, and the market closes on Friday, Dec. 24.
How the market calendar differs from federal holidays
| Day | Federal offices | NYSE |
|---|---|---|
| Good Friday, March 26 | Open | Closed |
| Columbus Day, Oct. 11 | Closed | Open |
| Veterans Day, Nov. 11 | Closed | Open |
| Day after Thanksgiving, Nov. 26 | Open | Early close, 1 p.m. |
| Friday, Dec. 31 | Closed (New Year’s 2028 observed) | Open |
Bond markets follow a separate recommendation from the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, which usually adds closures on Columbus Day and Veterans Day. Our full federal holidays 2027 list explains the observed-day rule.
A late Good Friday? No, an early one
Easter falls on March 28 in 2027, so Good Friday is March 26, eight days earlier on the calendar than in 2026, when it fell on April 3. See when Good Friday falls for future years and mark it on a March 2027 calendar.
Trading weeks in 2027
The first quarter of 2027 has four short trading weeks: the week ending Friday, Jan. 1, the weeks of Monday, Jan. 18 and Monday, Feb. 15, and the Good Friday week ending March 26. Later in the year, June 18, July 5, Sept. 6 and Dec. 24 each shorten a week, and Thanksgiving week has three and a half trading days.
