Burns Night 2027 falls on Monday, 25 January, the birthday of the poet Robert Burns, according to VisitScotland, Scotland’s national tourism organisation. The tourism body lists six steps for a traditional Burns Supper, from welcoming guests to singing Auld Lang Syne. This story sets them out in order, adds a weekday table for the date through 2031 and offers a printable running order for a supper at home.

What is Burns Night?

VisitScotland describes Robert Burns (1759 to 1796) as a Scottish poet and songwriter born in Alloway, Ayrshire, and the son of a tenant farmer. His works include Auld Lang Syne, Tam o’ Shanter, A Red, Red Rose and Address to a Haggis. He also collected and adapted traditional Scottish songs, and Auld Lang Syne, VisitScotland notes, is now sung around the world at New Year.

Burns Night is held on 25 January, his birthday. For a wider look at Scottish dates in the calendar, see our story on St Andrew’s Day 2026 in Scotland.

Burns Supper order of events

This is the running order on VisitScotland’s Burns Night page.

  1. Welcome your guests. The evening traditionally begins with guests gathering for a drink before taking their seats.
  2. Pipe in the haggis. The haggis is carried into the room in procession, traditionally accompanied by a piper.
  3. Address to a Haggis. Burns’ famous poem is performed over the haggis, with plenty of theatrical flourish, before everyone raises a toast.
  4. Enjoy the Burns Supper. Haggis, neeps and tatties are the traditional centrepiece.
  5. Speeches and poetry. Expect Burns recitations and traditional speeches, including the Immortal Memory celebrating the poet’s life and legacy.
  6. Finish with Auld Lang Syne. The evening traditionally ends with guests joining hands to sing.

The printable below puts those six steps on one US Letter sheet, in order. It uses only the steps VisitScotland lists. Pair it with a printable weekly calendar to plan the week around the night, or mark the date on the January printable calendars.
