Daylight saving time (DST) starts again in the U.S. on Sunday, March 14, 2027, at 2 a.m. local time, under federal law, after clocks fall back this Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026. Title 15, section 260a of the U.S. Code runs DST from “2 o’clock antemeridian on the second Sunday of March of each year” to “2 o’clock antemeridian on the first Sunday of November”. That puts the 2027 end on Sunday, Nov. 7. The fall-back day itself has its own page: see our Nov. 1, 2026 story, which also covers where the Sunshine Protection Act stands. For the standing rule, see when daylight saving time starts and ends each year.

Which places in North America skip the change?
Hawaii and most of Arizona do not observe DST. The U.S. Department of Transportation administers time zones. In Canada, most provinces follow the same dates as the U.S. According to the National Research Council Canada, most of Saskatchewan uses Central Standard Time all year, and since 2020 Yukon has used Yukon Standard Time (UTC minus 7) all year.
When do UK and EU clocks go forward in 2027?
GOV.UK says UK clocks go forward 1 hour at 1am on the last Sunday in March and back at 2am on the last Sunday in October. In 2027 those Sundays are March 28 and Oct. 31.
Directive 2000/84/EC sets summer time in the EU from 1:00 a.m. GMT on the last Sunday in March to 1:00 a.m. GMT on the last Sunday in October. That is the same instant as the UK change.
When does daylight saving change in New South Wales?
The NSW Government lists the 2026 start as Sunday 4 October 2026 at 2am Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST), and the 2027 end as Sunday 4 April 2027 at 3am AEDT. The next start, the first Sunday in October, would be Sunday, Oct. 3, 2027. That date is computed from the rule; NSW has not listed it yet.
Why does the New York to London gap change in March and November?
The U.S. and the UK change clocks on different weekends, so the usual 5-hour gap shrinks to 4 hours for a short stretch twice a year. New York is on Eastern Standard Time (EST, UTC-5) until the U.S. change and on Eastern Daylight Time (EDT, UTC-4) after it.
| Period | New York to London gap |
|---|---|
| Oct. 25 to Nov. 1, 2026 (UK is back, U.S. is not yet) | 4 hours |
| Nov. 1, 2026 to March 14, 2027 | 5 hours |
| March 14 to March 28, 2027 (U.S. is forward, UK is not yet) | 4 hours |
| March 28 to Oct. 31, 2027 | 5 hours |
| Oct. 31 to Nov. 7, 2027 (UK is back, U.S. is not yet) | 4 hours |
| From Nov. 7, 2027 | 5 hours |
The 2026 window is explained in our UK and Europe clocks go back story. Each change takes effect at the moment the later of the two places changes its clocks.
