Cy-Fair ISD Calendar 2026-27: Thanksgiving, Winter Break and Spring Break March 15-19

Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District (CFISD), also called Cy-Fair Independent School District (ISD) in the Houston area, has no school from Monday, Nov. 23 through Friday, Nov. 27, 2026, according to its “2026-2027 District Calendar”. Winter break runs Monday, Dec. 21 through Friday, Jan. 1, and spring break is Monday, March 15 through Friday, March 19, 2027. The last day of school for students is Thursday, May 27, 2027. Fall break (Oct. 12-16) and the Nov. 3 student holiday have already passed, so Thanksgiving week is the next break.

Cy-Fair ISD break dates for 2026-27

The district calendar lists each break as a “Student/Staff Holiday”. The weekday counts and return days in this table are our reading of the sheet.

Break	Dates	Weekdays off	Back in class
Fall break (past)	Mon.-Fri., Oct. 12-16, 2026	5	Mon., Oct. 19
Thanksgiving week	Mon.-Fri., Nov. 23-27, 2026	5	Mon., Nov. 30
Winter break	Mon., Dec. 21, 2026 to Fri., Jan. 1, 2027	10	Tue., Jan. 5, 2027 (Jan. 4 is a professional day)
Spring break	Mon.-Fri., March 15-19, 2027	5	Mon., March 22

The fall break is new this year: Community Impact reported on Nov. 12, 2025 that “The October fall break is new in the 2026-27 academic year.” The board’s Nov. 10, 2025 post on cfisd.net says the board approved the recommendations of the Districtwide Educational Improvement Council. Mark Thanksgiving week on the November 2026 calendar and spring break on the March 2027 calendar.

Cy-Fair ISD’s spring break comes a week after Houston ISD’s March 8-12 recess, which our Houston ISD calendar story covers. It lines up with the March 15-19 week in our Dallas ISD calendar story. For other districts, see the spring break 2027 roundup.

Which Cy-Fair ISD days off do summaries miss?

The named breaks are not the only no-school days. The calendar’s legend also marks “Professional Day/Student Holiday”, so students are off on each professional day below, and each one lengthens a weekend or a break.

Date	Weekday	What the calendar lists	Days off counting weekends
Sept. 7, 2026	Monday	Student/Staff Holiday (Labor Day by date; past)	3, Sat. Sept. 5 to Mon. Sept. 7
Oct. 9-16, 2026	Friday, then Monday-Friday	Student holiday, then fall break (past)	10, Fri. Oct. 9 to Sun. Oct. 18
Nov. 23-27, 2026	Monday-Friday	Student/Staff Holiday	9, Sat. Nov. 21 to Sun. Nov. 29
Dec. 21, 2026 to Jan. 4, 2027	Monday-Friday, then Monday	Winter break, then Professional Day	17, Sat. Dec. 19 to Mon. Jan. 4
Jan. 18, 2027	Monday	Student/Staff Holiday (Martin Luther King Jr. Day by date)	3, Sat. Jan. 16 to Mon. Jan. 18
Feb. 15, 2027	Monday	Professional Day (Presidents’ Day by date)	3, Sat. Feb. 13 to Mon. Feb. 15
March 12-19, 2027	Friday, then Monday-Friday	Student holiday, then spring break	10, Fri. March 12 to Sun. March 21
March 26, 2027	Friday	Student/Staff Holiday; the district does not name it	3, Fri. March 26 to Sun. March 28
April 26, 2027	Monday	Professional Day	3, Sat. April 24 to Mon. April 26
May 31, 2027	Monday	Student/Staff Holiday (Memorial Day by date)	3, Sat. May 29 to Mon. May 31

Two days are easy to miss. Monday, Jan. 4, 2027 is a professional day, so the first day back after winter break is Tuesday, Jan. 5, which is also when grading period 3 starts. And Monday, April 26 is a professional day with no school for students. March 26 is the Friday before Easter, a date the district’s PDF does not explain.

The district’s board post confirms one more detail: “Friday, March 26, 2027, is a student/staff holiday.” The printable school-year calendar marks each professional day, so each long weekend is on the page.

Which Cy-Fair ISD days could turn into school days?

The board’s post says: “Oct. 9, 2026 and March 12, 2027 are designated as inclement weather makeup days.” It also says “The calendar features three teacher work days that are also student holidays: Oct. 9, 2026; Nov. 3, 2026; and March 12, 2027.”

Date	Weekday	Calendar label	Status
Oct. 9, 2026	Friday	Teacher Work Day/School Closure Make-up Day/Student Holiday/Inclement Weather Day	Past; a student holiday
Nov. 3, 2026	Tuesday	Teacher Work Day/School Closure Make-up Day/Student Holiday	Past; a student holiday
March 12, 2027	Friday	Teacher Work Day/School Closure Make-up Day/Student Holiday/Inclement Weather Day	Student holiday on the calendar; whether it is used as a makeup day is not announced

March 12 is the only upcoming makeup day. As printed, it makes Thursday, March 11 the last school day before spring break, and students are off for 10 days counting weekends (Fri., March 12 to Sun., March 21) if the Friday stays a holiday.

What are the Cy-Fair ISD grading periods?

The calendar lists the same four grading periods for elementary and secondary students.

Grading period	Dates
1	Aug. 12 to Oct. 8, 2026
2	Oct. 19 to Dec. 18, 2026
3	Jan. 5 to March 11, 2027
4	March 22 to May 27, 2027

Each break sits between two periods: fall break between periods 1 and 2, winter break between 2 and 3, and the March 12 makeup day and spring break between 3 and 4.

When are the first and last days of school at Cy-Fair ISD?

Professional days for staff ran Aug. 3-11, 2026, and students began school on Wednesday, Aug. 12, per the district calendar and the board’s Nov. 10, 2025 post. The post says “The school year will end on May 27, 2027 for students.” Thursday, May 27 is the last day, Friday, May 28 is a professional day, and Monday, May 31 is a Memorial Day holiday.

The pages we read do not give graduation dates or a 2027-28 calendar, so we do not list them. The district’s web calendar shows a Nov. 24 early release for employees on a 244-day schedule, which does not apply to students.
