Checked Oct. 29, 2026. We will update this page when Ford publishes range, battery and delivery details.
The Ford Fathom starts at $28,350, and Ford says preorders begin in early 2027. That is the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) for the midsize all-electric pickup with its standard-range battery, according to Ford’s Fathom page. The same page lists a $1,595 destination and delivery charge, so the two together come to $29,945 before taxes, title, registration and dealer fees.
The newest official news is from Oct. 28, 2026: Ford said it has cast more than 5,000 large aluminum unicastings for the truck and still refers to a 2027 launch. What Ford has not published is just as useful to know. There is no driving range, no battery size, no charging time and no towing figure yet.
This guide puts every date Ford has given in one timeline, splits the specs into confirmed and not published, and ends with a printable preorder checklist.
Ford Fathom release date: the timeline so far
Ford has given seasons and quarters, not days. The table lists each step with the Ford source that states it.
| When | What happened or is planned | Ford source |
|---|---|---|
| Mon., Aug. 11, 2025 | Ford announces the Universal EV platform and a midsize electric truck at “a targeted starting price of about $30,000,” launching in 2027 | Ford From the Road |
| Thu., Aug. 6, 2026 | Ford names the truck Fathom and gives the $28,350 starting MSRP | Ford From the Road |
| Thu., Aug. 13, 2026 | Ford says the Louisville Assembly Plant line is on track and Fathom will be delivered “at scale next year” | Ford From the Road |
| Wed., Oct. 28, 2026 | More than 5,000 unicastings produced for process testing and prototype assembly | Ford From the Road |
| Early 2027 | Preorders begin | Ford.com |
| First quarter of 2027 | Prototype builds with production-qualified parts begin | Ford From the Road |
| Later in 2027 | “Customer vehicles will follow later in the year” | Ford From the Road |
The gap between those last two rows is where the real release date sits. Ford has not named a delivery month, and a preorder is a place in line, not a delivery date. Some news reports have said “fall 2027”; we could not find that wording on any Ford page, so treat it as unconfirmed. If you are planning a purchase around it, a 2027 printable yearly calendar with the first quarter marked is a fair way to keep track.
How much will the Ford Fathom cost?
Ford’s page says the $28,350 starting MSRP does “not include destination and delivery or dealer documentation fees.” Ford’s name-reveal article adds that it also excludes taxes, title and registration.
| Cost item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Starting MSRP, standard-range battery | $28,350 |
| Destination and delivery (Ford.com) | $1,595 |
| MSRP plus destination and delivery | $29,945 |
| Taxes, title, registration | Depends on your state |
| Dealer documentation fee | Set by the dealer |
| Higher trims and options | Not yet announced |
The price came down during development. In August 2025 Ford talked about “about $30,000”; a year later it put the number at $28,350. The $29,945 total is our sum of Ford’s two published figures. Ford does not state it, and it is not an out-the-door price.
What is the Ford Fathom’s range?
Ford has not published it. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the range of electric vehicles (EVs) sold in the U.S., and Ford’s Fathom page says: “The projected EPA-estimated driving range figures for Ford Fathom are not yet available.”
Ford has said a little about the battery. The launch truck uses a “standard-range battery,” and in its 2025 platform announcement Ford said the truck would use prismatic lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells built at BlueOval Battery Park Michigan. It has not given the capacity in kilowatt-hours (kWh), the charging speed or whether a longer-range battery will be offered.
Any range number you see before Ford publishes one is a guess. Weight, speed, cold weather and towing all change how far an electric pickup goes, so wait for the EPA figure and then for independent tests.
Ford Fathom specs: confirmed and not published
| Spec | Status | What Ford says |
|---|---|---|
| Body | Confirmed | Midsize all-electric pickup with a bed and a frunk |
| Seating | Confirmed | Seats five adults |
| Passenger room | Ford projection | “More passenger volume than the Toyota RAV4” |
| Platform | Confirmed | First vehicle on Ford’s Universal EV platform |
| Plant | Confirmed | Louisville Assembly Plant, Kentucky |
| Screen and navigation | Confirmed | “Large center display,” navigation powered by Apple Maps |
| Phone features | Confirmed, standard | Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Digital Key, Ford app remote control |
| Driver assistance | Confirmed | “Every Ford Fathom will be BlueCruise capable” |
| Home backup power | Confirmed | Bidirectional power that can “send that power back to your home” |
| EPA range | Not published | “Not yet available” |
| Battery size, charging time | Not published | |
| Towing and payload | Not published | |
| Dimensions, bed length, frunk size | Not published | |
| Trims and option prices | Not published |
Two of the confirmed lines need a footnote. BlueCruise “capable” means the truck has the hardware; Ford’s own article describes it as working “once activated,” and Ford has not said on the Fathom page what a plan will cost. Bidirectional power is confirmed, but Ford has not said how many kilowatts the truck can send or what home equipment you would need.
How Ford is building it: 146 parts become two
The Oct. 28 update is about the body structure. Ford says its unicastings reduce “146 structural parts to just two.” The castings are made at Ford’s Shelbyville Technical Center from aluminum that melts at about 1,300 degrees Fahrenheit, then go to Louisville for process testing and prototype assembly.
Ford’s new process splits a traditional assembly line into three main branches. In August, Ford said this lets Louisville assemble the Fathom 40% faster than the plant’s current products, and that assembly “will net out at 15% faster” than the plant today. The plant was emptied for a $2 billion overhaul. These are Ford’s targets; how fast the line runs, and at what cost, will show once production starts.
Is the Ford Fathom delayed?
Ford has not announced a delay. In early October, Ford chief executive Jim Farley said, as reported on Oct. 6, 2026 by an auto industry news site: “It’s going to be a heck of an effort to launch at this scale, at cost, on time.” The same report noted that he did not confirm a delay or give a new timeline. Three weeks later, Ford’s unicasting update still described “the affordable truck’s 2027 launch.”
The plain reading: 2027 is still Ford’s public plan, and the hard part is the ramp-up. If that changes, Ford’s newsroom is where it will be said first, and we will update this page.
Should you wait for the Fathom?
The Fathom makes sense to watch if you can charge at home and want a pickup with a bed, a frunk and home backup power at a starting MSRP under $30,000. If you tow often, carry heavy loads or need a truck before late 2027, there is nothing to compare yet: the ratings that matter for that work are unpublished.
Our printable checklist puts the confirmed facts on one side and the questions to settle before a deposit on the other. Preorders open in early 2027, so a January 2027 calendar or March 2027 calendar on the fridge with a note to check Ford’s page is a simple way not to miss the opening.
