Rosh Hashanah 5788 begins at sundown on Friday, Oct. 1, 2027, and Yom Kippur begins at sundown on Sunday, Oct. 10, according to the Hebcal calendar for 2027. Passover begins at sundown on Wednesday, April 21, and Hanukkah at sundown on Friday, Dec. 24. The table below gives the evening each holiday begins, its first full day and its end, with a note on which first days fall on a weekday. A free printable year list is at the end.

What are the Jewish holiday dates in 2027?

Hebcal lists each holiday from the evening it begins to nightfall on its last day. The Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) says “Jewish holidays begin at sunset.” It also says that “on the Jewish calendar, holidays begin at sundown and continue through the next day.” So the first full day is the date after the evening start. We computed that column and the weekday notes; the evening, end and Hebrew dates are Hebcal’s.

The “first full day is” column says whether that date falls on Monday to Friday or on Saturday or Sunday. It does not say that any school or employer closes: schools and workplaces set their own calendars. Yom Kippur begins on Sunday evening, Oct. 10, so its full day is Monday, Oct. 11. Rosh Hashanah begins on a Friday evening and ends Sunday at nightfall, so both of its days fall on a weekend.

Hebcal lists more observances than this table; see its 2027 page for the full list. This story leaves out Yom HaShoah and Yom HaAtzmaut because we did not confirm their entries.

Why do calendar sites differ by a day?

Because the Jewish day runs from sunset to sunset. Hebcal’s entry for Passover starts on the evening of Wednesday, April 21, while the first Hebrew date, 15 Nisan 5787, is Thursday, April 22. A site that prints only the evening and a site that prints only the first full day are both right about the same holiday. The table above shows both columns so you do not have to guess.

URJ gives the same pairs as ranges: Purim on March 22-23, Passover from April 21 to April 28, Shavuot on June 10-11, Rosh Hashanah on Oct. 1-3 and Hanukkah from Dec. 24, 2027 to Jan. 1, 2028. URJ’s Passover range ends on April 28, while the Hebcal Diaspora entry runs to April 29.

Which holidays differ in Israel and outside it?

Three entries change with location, according to Hebcal’s Diaspora and Israel views:

  • Passover: eight days outside Israel (15 to 22 Nisan), ending at nightfall on Thursday, April 29. In Israel it lasts seven days and ends at nightfall on Wednesday, April 28.
  • Shavuot: two days outside Israel, from Thursday evening, June 10, to nightfall on Saturday, June 12. In Israel it is one day and ends on Friday, June 11.
  • Simchat Torah: outside Israel it is the day after Shemini Atzeret, from Saturday evening, Oct. 23, to nightfall on Sunday, Oct. 24. In Israel the two are combined on Oct. 23.

Our Passover story, Passover 2027 and Holi 2027 dates, covers the Seder nights and the April days in detail, and the April printable calendars have room to mark them.

Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur 2027

Rosh Hashanah 5788 runs from Friday evening, Oct. 1, to nightfall on Sunday, Oct. 3, which is 1 and 2 Tishrei. Yom Kippur (10 Tishrei) begins at sundown on Sunday, Oct. 10, and ends at nightfall on Monday, Oct. 11. Sukkot follows on Friday evening, Oct. 15, and runs to nightfall on Friday, Oct. 22. The October printable calendars have room to mark these days, which run from Oct. 1 to Oct. 24.

When is Hanukkah 2027?

Hebcal gives Hanukkah 2027 from sundown on Friday, Dec. 24, to nightfall on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2028, and URJ lists the same span. The first full day, Saturday, Dec. 25, is also Christmas Day. Our Hanukkah 2026 story has the eight-night candle table and lighting rules, which work the same way in 2027.
