Hebrew year 5787, which began at sundown on Sept. 11, 2026, is a leap year with 13 months, according to the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) and Chabad.org. The extra month, Adar I, begins on Monday, Feb. 8, 2027, by our count from Chabad.org’s month calendars, and Adar II follows on Wednesday, March 10. Purim 2027 falls in Adar II. Below are all 13 months with their Gregorian dates, the holidays that move and a free printable.

Is 5787 a Jewish leap year?

Yes. Chabad.org says the Jewish leap year “occurs seven times in a 19-year cycle” and “has 13 months instead of the regular year’s 12.” The URJ’s Cantor Marshall Portnoy named the leap years of this cycle in a Feb. 27, 2020 post: “5779 (2018-19), 5782 (2021-22), 5784 (2023-24), 5787 (2026-27), 5790 (2029-30), 5793 (2032-33) and 5795 (2034-35).”

We checked that list with our own count. Year 5787 is 19 times 304 plus 11, so it is year 11 of its cycle, and the leap years of a cycle are years 3, 6, 8, 11, 14, 17 and 19. That matches the URJ list. The previous leap year was 5784 (2023-24) and the next is 5790 (2029-30).

What are Adar I and Adar II?

Chabad.org explains that “the added month is called ‘Adar I’ and is inserted before the month of Adar (termed ‘Adar II’ in leap years).” The reason, in its words: “This is so that the lunar-based Jewish year should remain aligned with the solar seasons.”

So in 5787 the usual Adar becomes Adar II, and a new Adar I comes first.

What are the 13 months of 5787 in Gregorian dates?

We read each month’s first day from Chabad.org’s month calendars (starting with September 2026) and computed the last day and the length from the next month’s start. Jewish days begin at the previous sundown, so each date below is the daytime date; the month’s first evening is the day before.

When are Purim and Passover in 2027?

Purim is in Adar II in a leap year. Chabad.org says “Purim 2027 begins at sundown on Monday, March 22, 2027 and concludes at nightfall on Tuesday, March 23, 2027.” That is 14 Adar II by our table, and Shushan Purim, 15 Adar II, is Wednesday, March 24. Adar I has its own 14th day, Purim Katan, on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2027, by our count.

Chabad.org lists Passover 2027 as “April 21-29,” with Seders on “the nights of April 21 and 22.” Nisan starts on April 8 in the table, so 15 Nisan is Thursday, April 22, the first full day after the first Seder night. Our Jewish holidays 2027 story has the full holiday table, and the Passover 2027 story covers the April dates. The March printable calendars have room for both Adar II starts and Purim.

For the other end of the year, My Jewish Learning says that “in 2026, Hanukkah begins at sundown on Friday, Dec. 4, and lasts until sundown on Saturday, Dec. 12.” That evening begins 25 Kislev 5787 by our count, well before Adar I.
