Mardi Gras 2027 Is February 9 and Ash Wednesday Is February 10: Lent Calendar to Easter

Mardi Gras 2027 falls on Tuesday, Feb. 9, and Ash Wednesday follows on Feb. 10, counted back from Easter Sunday on March 28, 2027. GOV.UK, which lists the 2027 UK bank holidays, shows Good Friday on 26 March and Easter Monday on 29 March, which fixes Easter itself. Below are the Lent dates, Holy Week days and the same dates for 2028 to 2030.

Mardi Gras is also called Fat Tuesday and Shrove Tuesday. In the UK the day is known as Pancake Day, so Pancake Day 2027 is Feb. 9 as well. To keep the dates on paper, use the Lent 2027 printable below, or the February 2027 printable calendars and March 2027 printable calendars. For Easter alone, see when is Easter.

Mardi Gras and Lent dates in 2027

Each date below is Easter, March 28, minus the number of days shown. It is calendar arithmetic from the Easter date.

When does Lent end in 2027?

It depends on which church description you follow, and both are sound. The Church of England says Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent and describes the season as running from Ash Wednesday until Easter Eve, with a duration of forty days plus Sundays. Easter Eve is Holy Saturday, March 27, 2027.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) says the season of Lent lasts from Ash Wednesday until the evening of Holy Thursday, which is March 25, 2027. Its page “Why is Lent 40 Days?” adds that if Sundays are excluded from the count, the season lasts forty days.

Our count matches the 40. From Feb. 10 to March 27, 2027, there are 46 calendar days, and six of them are Sundays (Feb. 14, 21 and 28, then March 7, 14 and 21). Take those out and 40 days remain.

Sunday in 2027	Date	Lent days counted through the Saturday before
First	Feb. 14	4 (Feb. 10 to 13)
Second	Feb. 21	10
Third	Feb. 28	16
Fourth	Mar. 7	22
Fifth	Mar. 14	28
Sixth (Palm Sunday)	Mar. 21	34
Holy Saturday	Mar. 27	40

Valentine’s Day lands on the first Sunday of Lent this year; see Valentine’s Day 2027 for that date.

Mardi Gras in New Orleans: parade dates for 2027

The City of New Orleans sets the parade schedule. Its Mardi Gras page at ready.nola.gov listed no 2027 parade dates when we checked, showing “Upcoming parades: Stay tuned!” We will not give parade times until the city posts them.

Presidents Day 2027 is Monday, Feb. 15, five days after Ash Wednesday; see Presidents Day 2027 for what is open and closed.

Mardi Gras, Ash Wednesday and Easter dates, 2027 to 2030

We worked out Easter for each year with the Anonymous Gregorian algorithm, then counted back 47 and 46 days.

2027	Tue., Feb. 9	Wed., Feb. 10	Sun., Mar. 28
2028	Tue., Feb. 29	Wed., Mar. 1	Sun., Apr. 16
2029	Tue., Feb. 13	Wed., Feb. 14	Sun., Apr. 1
2030	Tue., Mar. 5	Wed., Mar. 6	Sun., Apr. 21

In 2028 Mardi Gras falls on Feb. 29, a leap day, and Ash Wednesday lands on March 1. Easter is a movable date, like the start of Ramadan 2027.
