MNPS Calendar 2026-27: Metro Nashville Public Schools Breaks and Holidays

Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) students have no school Nov. 23-27, 2026, from Monday, Dec. 21, 2026 to Monday, Jan. 4, 2027, and from Monday, Mar. 22 to Friday, Mar. 26, 2027, according to the district’s 2026-2027 District Calendar. Students return Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2027, and the last day for students is Tuesday, May 25, 2027. The PDF is marked “Revised 2/9/26”; the district’s calendar page links to it.

The next day the district is closed is Veterans Day, Wed., Nov. 11, 2026. School began Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026, and Labor Day, the Oct. 9-16 fall break and the Nov. 3 parent conference day have passed.

When are the MNPS breaks in 2026-27?

Weekdays off are our count from the district’s dates; the return days marked “our reading” are the first school day after each break.

Break	Students out	Weekdays off	Students return
Fall break (past)	Fri., Oct. 9 to Fri., Oct. 16, 2026	6	Mon., Oct. 19 (second quarter begins)
Thanksgiving	Mon., Nov. 23 to Fri., Nov. 27, 2026	5	Mon., Nov. 30 (our reading)
Winter break	Mon., Dec. 21, 2026 to Mon., Jan. 4, 2027	11	Tue., Jan. 5, 2027 (third quarter begins)
Spring break	Mon., Mar. 22 to Fri., Mar. 26, 2027	5	Mon., Mar. 29 (our reading)

Oct. 9 is a stockpiled PD day, which puts a Friday in front of the Oct. 12-16 Fall Break. The district lists Jan. 4 the same way, “Stockpiled PD Day (Students do not report),” and Jan. 5 as the day the third quarter begins. Students return on Tuesday, Jan. 5; that Monday is a PD day for staff only. For the December weeks, see our December 2026 printable calendar and the winter break 2026 roundup.

Which MNPS days are no-school days?

The district separates days when it is closed from days when students stay home but staff work. A stockpiled PD day is the second kind: “Students do not report.” For the rest of the break weeks the lines we checked do not say whether staff work, so that column says “not stated.”

Date	Weekday	What the district lists	Staff status
Sept. 7, 2026	Monday	Labor Day observed	District closed
Oct. 9, 2026	Friday	Stockpiled PD day	Students do not report
Oct. 12-16, 2026	Monday-Friday	Fall Break	Not stated
Nov. 3, 2026	Tuesday	Parent conference day	Students do not report
Nov. 11, 2026	Wednesday	Veterans Day observed	District closed
Nov. 23-27, 2026	Monday-Friday	Thanksgiving holiday	District closed Nov. 26-27; Nov. 23-25 not stated
Dec. 21-31, 2026	Monday-Thursday	Winter break holiday	District closed Dec. 23-25; other days not stated
Jan. 1, 2027	Friday	New Year Day holiday	District closed
Jan. 4, 2027	Monday	Stockpiled PD day	Students do not report
Jan. 18, 2027	Monday	Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) holiday observed	District closed
Feb. 15, 2027	Monday	Stockpiled PD day	Students do not report
Mar. 22-25, 2027	Monday-Thursday	Spring Break	Not stated
Mar. 26, 2027	Friday	Spring Holiday	District closed

That is 32 weekdays of no school before the last day, by our count, including the 11 weekdays of winter break. The calendar names Mar. 26 the “Spring Holiday”; it does not name it Good Friday.

Is Presidents Day a day off for MNPS students?

Presidents Day, Mon., Feb. 15, 2027, is not a named holiday on the calendar. The district lists that date as a stockpiled PD day with “Students do not report,” so students are out and the day is not a district closure. The district also closes for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 18, and Memorial Day, May 31, and Juneteenth, June 18, 2027, fall after the last student day.

How many PD and weather days does MNPS stockpile?

The calendar’s note reads “6 Stockpiled PD days, 7 Stockpiled inclement weather days,” 13 in all. Among the dates we checked, Oct. 9, Jan. 4 and Feb. 15 are stockpiled PD days. The district’s line is all this story reports; it does not say which dates would be used if snow or storms close schools.

When do MNPS quarters end?

Quarter	Dates the district lists
First quarter	Ends Thu., Oct. 8, 2026
Second quarter	Begins Mon., Oct. 19; ends Fri., Dec. 18, 2026 (half day, exams for grades 9-12)
Third quarter	Begins Tue., Jan. 5; ends Fri., Mar. 5, 2027
Fourth quarter	Begins Mon., Mar. 8, 2027; school ends Tue., May 25

Exams run Dec. 15-17 as a half day for grades 9-12, with a full day for Pre-K through grade 8. Mar. 19, 2027, the Friday before spring break, is a half day for all students. May 26 is the Teacher In-Service Day and the last day for teachers.

How does MNPS compare with Memphis-Shelby County Schools?

Both Tennessee districts return from winter break on Jan. 5, 2027, but spring break and the last day differ. The Memphis dates come from our Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) calendar story, which cites that district’s 2026-27 Student Calendar.

Item	MNPS	MSCS
Thanksgiving break	Nov. 23-27, 2026	Nov. 23-27, 2026
Winter break	Dec. 21, 2026 to Jan. 4, 2027	Dec. 21, 2026 to Jan. 4, 2027
Students return	Tue., Jan. 5, 2027	Tue., Jan. 5, 2027
Spring break	Mar. 22-26, 2027	Mar. 15-19, 2027, plus Mar. 26 and 29
Last day for students	Tue., May 25, 2027	Thu., May 20, 2027

Has MNPS posted the 2027-28 calendar?

Not yet; the district’s calendar page shows the 2026-27 year. Dates for 2027-28 will need to come from the district once it posts them. The free printable puts the 2026-27 breaks, PD days, first day and last day on one page, and our printable school-year calendar page has more layouts.
