National Popcorn Day is January 19th, according to the Popcorn Board, so it falls on Tuesday, Jan. 19, in 2027. The Board’s newsroom page says: “January 19th is National Popcorn Day, a day bursting with goodness and good taste.” The page (checked Nov. 4, 2026) gives no year, so the date does not move; only the weekday does. A local television station (KBSI) wrote on Jan. 19, 2024, that the day is “observed every year on January 19.” Savor Nation reported on Jan. 17, 2026, that it fell on “Monday, Jan. 19.” The weekdays below are our calculation from the fixed date.

Will movie theaters offer National Popcorn Day deals in 2027?

Not yet announced as of Nov. 4, 2026. Here is what happened last year. On Jan. 5, 2026, Cinema United, with The Cinema Foundation, announced “the annual nationwide celebration of America’s favorite movie snack on Monday, January 19,” with one-day-only popcorn deals at movie theatres nationwide. On Jan. 17, 2026, Savor Nation reported that “Movie theaters are popping out deals in celebration of National Popcorn Day Monday, Jan. 19.”

That is the 2026 record, not a promise for 2027. We will not list any 2027 deal until a source publishes it.

Who started National Popcorn Day?

The Popcorn Board does not say. Its newsroom page describes the day as one that “celebrates one of nature’s most extraordinary foods: popcorn!” but names no founder and no origin, so we do not either. The Board’s “Our Story” page says popcorn was “Discovered in the Americas thousands of years ago.” The Board’s home page also lists a separate observance in its menu: “October is Popcorn Poppin’ Month.”
