Who started National Puzzle Day?

The “About Puzzle Day” page says: “Puzzle Day was founded by Jodi Jill, a professional puzzle maker and lifelong puzzle enthusiast.” Fort Wayne radio station Star 88.3 also named Jill as the founder in a Jan. 29, 2025 post.

The start year is not settled in the founder’s own material. One media page says the day launched in 2002, while the about pages say “over 30 years ago” and “over 32 years ago”. We print no start year as fact. Jill’s site also says Puzzle Month is an extension of Puzzle Day on January 29th.

What does the founder’s free puzzle kit include?

The site invites visitors to “Download, Copy and Play our official 2026 Puzzle Kit,” free for everyone As of Nov. 4, 2026, we saw no 2027 kit posted, so check puzzledayfun.com closer to January. The site also lists a Puzzle Day Fact Sheet, an escape room activity kit and the hashtag #PuzzleDay.

We found no confirmed New York Times (NYT) Games or USA Today activity tied to the day, and we do not claim one.
