Today’s Quordle from Merriam-Webster is puzzle #1736, for Monday, Oct. 26, 2026. Two of the four words repeat a letter, and one of them is a less common word from metalworking and chemistry, so expect that board to take the longest. Work through the clues below one board at a time; the answers are in a marked spoiler section at the end.

How Quordle works

You have nine guesses to solve four five-letter words. Every guess is entered on all four boards at once, and the tiles color like Wordle’s: green for the right letter in the right spot, yellow for a letter in the wrong spot, gray for a letter not in that word.

Clues for each word

Top left

• Letters: starts with A, ends with Y, and has a double S in the middle.
• Meaning: a test of a metal or ore to find out how pure it is.

Top right

• Letters: starts with G, ends with M.
• Meaning: a soft shine, as in a light in someone’s eye.

Bottom left

• Letters: starts with M, ends with S, and has the vowel U twice.
• Meaning: the slippery fluid that lines your nose.

Bottom right

• Letters: starts with W, ends with G.
• Meaning: to twist a wet towel to squeeze the water out.

A starter strategy for today

A first guess such as Samba, with S, A and M, touches three of the four boards. A second guess with R, I, N, G and U fills in most of the rest. Solve the board with the most green first, and do not spend a guess on a board that is already solved.
