Today’s Wordle from The New York Times (NYT) is puzzle #1955, for Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, edited by Tracy Bennett. The answer repeats a vowel letter and ends in Y, which makes the middle of the word the tricky part. Work down the clues one at a time, and only scroll to the last section if you want the answer itself.

How Wordle works

You get six tries to find a five-letter word. After each guess, a green tile means the right letter in the right spot, yellow means the letter is in the word but in another spot, and gray means it is not in the word at all. A letter that appears twice is only marked twice if you guess it twice.

Six clues, gentle to strong

  1. Part of speech: it is an adjective.
  2. Topic: a person who is wrapped up in a technical or niche interest.
  3. Vowels: the only vowel letter is E, and it appears twice. The last letter, Y, acts as a vowel here.
  4. Repeated letter: yes, E appears twice.
  5. First letter: G.
  6. Strong nudge: an informal word for being enthusiastic about technical or niche interests, in the way a nerd is.

Guessing tips for today

The word ends in Y, so a guess that puts Y in the last spot can turn a tile green right away. A starter with E and a common consonant, such as “stare” or “crane,” shows whether the E lands in the second or third spot. Because E appears twice, a yellow E is worth testing in a second position before you spend guesses on new letters.
