Samhain eve, Oíche Shamhna, falls tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026, and Samhain itself is Sunday, Nov. 1; sunset in Dublin tomorrow is 4:55 p.m., per the U.S. Naval Observatory (USNO). The National Museum of Ireland (NMI) says “the festival of Samhain, the first day of winter, was marked on the 1 November,” and that the eve, Oíche Shamhna, “is still celebrated all over Ireland with feasting and games.”

When is Samhain 2026?

Samhain is Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026, and its eve is Saturday, Oct. 31. Many people who mark Samhain today begin on the evening of Oct. 31, in line with the NMI’s word “eve.” The Library of Congress American Folklife Center says Halloween “originated with the Celtic festival known as Samhain in Ireland.” The same post says it is “not as clear today that Samhain marked the beginning of the Celtic year,” so this story does not call it a Celtic New Year.

USNO lists the September equinox for Sept. 23, 2026, at 00:05 Universal Time (UT) and the December solstice for Dec. 21, 2026, at 20:50 UT.
